For years I've gone to Summit Racing's Super Summit, because it was 2 minutes from my house. This year it's this coming Friday and Saturday at Norwalk Dragway. Its free, you can run your car on the strip multiple times, and there is an autocross as well. This is in addition to the car show and manufactures displays. Just thought I'd mention in case some of you didn't know about it. I'll be there both days with either my 01 Bullitt (black), 99 Miata (black), or 65 mustang (bronze), so look me up!

Now it's 15 minutes from my house!
I didn't know, thanks for the mention.
I am committed already to be away on Saturday (mother's 90th birthday) but I should be able to escape the desk on Friday for some free Autox.
Look for a red Miata sporting Ohio Historic Tags.

NA?
Edit - duh, it would have to be what, a 1990 to get historic plates?

This bronze 65 you speak of, is it the fast back I saw making passes at Power Tour last summer? I may have asked you this before. If so forgive me, my memory is not so good.
In reply to gearheadmb:
Yeah, that was me and my son. I don't remember you asking about it before, but my memory is likely no better than yours! Were you participating or spectating?
Spectating. That was an awesome event. I liked your car, i have a 65 coupe, thats why your car stuck in my memory.

We had a great time. We wanted to do more of it this year, but its farther away than I wanted to go with my old engine. I built a new one for it, but haven't found the time to install it yet. Are you going to Super Summit?

I have this Saturday off, I may just have to make a trip out to Norwalk!
Dam! that looks like a blast and only 30 mins from me. Too bad my son's 5th B-day party is Saturday, he would love this.
Drag racing, RC cars, Bigfoot, car shows....

Yeah, sounds like a great place to take a kid for his birthday!

I might bring teh Volvo out. RX-7 broke another axle and it's going to be out of commission for possibly the rest of the year.
It sounds like a great time. I would have to blow off a work thing though. I might go.

You have to ask yourself, "which is better, work or play?". The answer will find you....
The more I think about this upcoming event, the more I realize of the Tragically Missed Opportunity!
Think about it...a 2 day event with both drag racing and autox setups.
Where else do you see this other than The Challenge?
The missed opportunities could have either been sanctioned or unsanctioned.
Sanctioned: There has always been talk of a Northern Challenge. With some barter and advertising/editorial considerations thrown back and forth, this could have been The 2015 Grassroots Motorsports Summer Challenge at Super Summit.
Unsanctioned: there could have easily been a competition within the competition at The Grassroots Motorsports Challenge Test and Tune at Super Summit. All we needed to do was appoint some judges which should not be hard to find.
Does this event repeat again next year? If so, I think these ideas have some legs.
All this thought came across me as I realized I don't have a car that can do the drags and the autox since the Infiniti Q45 did not make it back from Gainesville and I have yet to acquire another Challenger. I will however take my Miata to the autox. I figure as a stock car, it is not much of a drag racer.
I can only attend on Friday but I could be easily convinced to turn my Miata into a 2 driver car.
I can't think of any of my buddies who would attend with me since it is the same Friday as the start of a 78 Mile sailboat race that I declined from this year.
I figure that the autox portion will be poorly attended (at this drag racing venue) especially on Friday, so my hopes are that there will be opportunity for nearly unlimited runs.
In my 22 year of ownership of this Miata, it has mostly been driven in parkinglots. It is set up for Stock Class of 1994 but has been driven less than 30k miles since then. What I currently lack is a set of r-comp rubber so this event will have to be on the street Kuhmos which have lots of tread but could use to be replaced due to age. I think I will use them up at this event and then get some new rubber.

A couple years ago the event moved from the Summit Racing headquarters to the Summit County Fairground. The reason was noise. The Summit facility is right in the middle of a residential area, and there were complaints. Well the new location really didn't work out that well (my opinion) for various reasons. With Summit being the title sponsor for what was Norwalk Dragway, it seems like a natural fit. So to answer your question about next year, its an annual event, so I would think it would be there again as long as it works out well this year.
We'll be taking our Miata as well, and autocrossing and dragging it. Why not? They are just fun runs. And you'll get to find out what your car does in the quarter mile. I wouldn't count on the autocross being poorly attended. The pro touring guys are on to autocrossing and you read about it all the time in the hot rod mags. Keep in mind this is a non-competitive event. These are fun runs, autox or drag.

I'll be in Norwalk anyway this weekend. Maybe I should take the Grom down the drag strip.

I saw this come across the NORA facebook feed yesterday. At first I was excited, then I realized I'm on call, and Norwalk is about 25min out of bounds for me. Sad .
Not going, feel free to stop by on your way home and run the DA sander for a few hours

John, What time will you be there on Friday? I can't get there til about 6pm. I'll be with my son Brad in his black '01 Mustang Bullitt. I'd be happy to be your second driver.
I am trying to get there as early as possible on Friday. Since it starts at 3pm, that is what I am shooting for; we'll see. I am sure I will still be there past 6pm and I will take you up on the driving portion.
I have encouraged a highly impressionable 20yr old who is a friend of the family to join. I am going to get him into the driver's seat a little too.
