Just finished pulling the LS3 Tremec TR6060 package out of the Camaro and put it on the scales. Complete engine, transmission, clutch, flywheel, cold air intake, wiring harness, coil packs, starter, alternator, etc. Only things missing were the exhaust manifold/headers, engine mounts, AC and power steering. Total weight was under 650 pounds according to my scales. Not too shabby.
Yesterday I weighed up the fully caged TR8 coupe shell and it came in right at 700 pounds. No doors, hood, or trunk deck. Just the metal unibody and 90 feet or so of roll cage tubing. Next step is to introduce them to each other and see if there is any more surgery I want to perform.

Does that include its suspension, wheels, etc?
Nope just the bare shell. Everything that can be removed or unbolted has been. Had it on the rotisserie to add reinforcements to the rear suspension mounts, and to flare the fenders. The tubing alone must weigh 150 pounds. The steel I added to the rear is offset by the inner rockers and all of the roof inner structure I removed in order to get the cage high and tight. Cage has at least 30 points of contact with the body. Goal was to keep it as unobtrusive as possible and make it so I could cover it and have most of it disappear into the body work. Way more work than any other cage I have built, but worth it. This is going to be a barely legal street car. Not going to make it all fancy show car. Something that I won't feel guilty about taking a grinder and welder to so I can continually modify this thing. Kind of a never ending project car. There is another guy on the west coast doing a similar build using a 5.3 and a convertible. He's taking the time to make it pretty and more civilized. Mine will be more Mad Max, at least until I'm happy with it.

Cool.
I'm not sure my brain knows how to process the meaning of the weight of a bare shell. Where's that gonna put you when finished? 2100 or 2200 lbs?

I am too, but I was trying to be optimistic.
A fully dressed TR8 coupe comes in around 2500 pounds. A fully gutted in race trim is around 2000 pounds. Most of the modified street driven ones are in the 2350 range. If I ditch the front and rear bumpers and replace with fiberglass repos, and make fiberglass hood and trunk lids, use some Lexan for the rear window, gut the doors, I should have no problem hitting my goal of 2500. The engine, trans, rear end, exhaust, wheels and tires, and cooling system are all going to add additional weight over what the stock components were. Switching suspension, and going with bigger brakes with aluminum calipers will probably weigh about the same as stock. Goal is 2500 pounds, and 500 hp at the rear wheels, but any combination that gets me 5 pounds per HP or better is acceptable. Get use to that level of power, then add a turbo. Start with an Explorer 8.8 and then maybe adapt the Camaro or a Ford independent some how. From this point on, except for the lights and windshield, nothing made by British Leyland is going back on the shell. Everything else will be home made or aftermarket.
I think I want a ride. Never been in anything with that kind of power to weight.
This is AWESOME! Where's the build thread so I can follow along? And didn't someone once say "pictures or it didn't happen"?

That's literbike territory.
Which I can tell you is verifiably insane.

Not sure, huh? Concerned about embarrassing yourself, or those in your immediate vicinity?
If I could post pics on this site I would be all over it. You want to see what I'm up too you need to head over to Triumphexperience.com and troll the TR7/TR8 section. There are lots of TR8s running around with 300 plus HP. There are several track versions running 500. My buddy has one with a turbocharged LT1 383 making close to if not more than 800 hp. His has the full group 44 treatment with wide fiberglass fenders. Most of you guys see a TR8 and think oh thats got a 3.5 liter Buick V8 making less than 150HP. In most cases you would be wrong. Not too many slow unmodified ones left.
