Flat head V8, manual transmission. Intake & exhaust manifolds are off, all wiring and plumbing is off and identified. As I lift the engine slightly off the frame and start pulling forward, the transmission comes with it, I see no transmission mount across the frame rails. I put a floor jack under the flywheel with slight pressure to keep the tranny from moving, but it won't let go of the engine.
1. They are meant to come out as a team?
2. The clutch is rusted to the flywheel?
3. Other?
I don't have one of those flywheel turning wrench thingies, with the engine locked up it would be easy to see if the two are mated for life. Please, any suggestion no matter how silly it may sound can't make it worse.
Thanks, Dan
I wonder if the transmission input shaft is rusted to the clutch disc.

I find that engaging the clutch usually separates the two, give that a try.
Thanks, after I returned to the garage and miss little bit I remembered that at one time we tried pushing it and popping the clutch so the clutch does engage and disengage.
Engine is locked up so lifting the rear end in the air locking one tire off and spinning the other while the car is in gear should release the input shaft right?
In reply to 914Driver :
If you depressed the clutch pedal and the clutch engaged/dissengaged, then that means the fork is pushing on the throwout bearing and moving the pressure plate ... but if the disc is stuck to the flywheel that will not be enough and it might still be rusted to the input.
This is a tough one, I am trying to think of how you could separate it other than just prying.
I doubt spinning the wheel will do much for you. The clutch disc will not move on the input by doing that. It will just spin but the clutch splines will stay on the input shaft and spin with it but not slide off.
Sounds like it's time to start hose in the inside of the bell housing with penetrating oil and smacking the tail shaft of the trans with a rubber mallet or a dead blow hammer to jiggle things around Until It Breaks free
what does "i see no trans mount across the frame rails" mean? ie you already removed it? this car never had one? is it a closed driveline ie torque tube? if so, does the torque tube secure the trans to the diff, and you have to remove that to get the engine and trans out of the car?
Please ensure that all the transmission/bellhousing bolts are out. Some thread from the bellhousing side
I'll give you a little warning. The engine with trans is around 1200lbs so set your engine hoist accordingly. I was a little surprised when my hoist tipped over luckily in a safe direction.
Is this the Lesalle? Where are you separating things? I believe that some of those need to have the flywheel removed before you can pull the bellhousing so you can leave the transmission in the car but have to pull the bell with the engine.
Torque tube.? Most drive shafts from that era were torque tube. Take it apart at the pivot.
In reply to AngryCorvair (Forum Supporter) :
Further investigation shows a small cross brace and the end of the tail shaft. It looks like pulling the engine, the bell housing etc. with its weight will drop, breaking the something behind it.

Well, just rearranged it. The metal handle came out of the pump and whacked my big toe right behind the nail, I coulda danced all night.
