This is actually my first set of tires I plan to "purchase".
Story time - I have a '91 Volvo 240 Wagon, front tires don't cover Lincolns head (on a penny) and rears hardly do. I need new tires soon, nothing major but cant swing new prices. This week a crashed Volvo 240 sedan popped up on Craigslist with Michelin Defenders with "less than 10,000 miles on them". I like Michelins, he said $140 would move the tires but I'd have to provide him with something to roll away on. The passenger side front tire rubbed against a plastic part of the fender, but doesn't seem to have any cuts.
My Question - A) Is it bad to buy tires/wheels from a crashed vehicle? B) I think keeping my wheels would be out of the question right? As I would then have to pay for the tires to be mounted / balanced on my wheels then my old tires to be mounted on his wrecked wheels. I don't know how much that costs..
Picture -
I buy junkyard tires for the rear of my car alot. As long as there isnt any cuts or torn chunks i dont care what they come off. Around here mount and balance is 10 a tire, just mount is 5.

If the tires are straight, I see no issue with it..
Yea, just not sure if the wheels are straight!
A buy 3 get 1 special would get you a new set of skins complete with warranty for under $300. Is it really worth dicking around?

Hmm, looks like it would be like $100 for tires (think I can negotiate) and 60-$85 for mount/unmount 8 tires balance 4.. So $125 for 2-4 hours work.. probably not worth my time if I look at it like that, but haha I spent a good 30 hours replacing window scrapers on this car, so when I start looking at it like that I just think I'm damned crazy!
