I don't really have a thing for BMWs but this is pretty awesome. Sorry for cross-forum posting. Worth a looksies! http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=843272

The car looks awesome, but I couldn't will myself to go to the second page of the thread after suffering through the comments. I couldn't even paraphrase all of them.
That much work and money would have made a really nice road race car.
Sorry - I do not get drifting.
I don't get drifting either, the project in itself is cool which is why I posted. I've found people with stupid money tend to somehow be stupid too.
I'd hate my life so much after putting on that much exhaust wrap. I bet it's a hoot to drive though.
I also do not understand drifting.

That's ok, there's nothing of interest on those pages anyway. Just more fanboi gushing.
Amazing project, nonetheless.
I wouldn't mind trying a drifting class. It looks like a lot of fun. From what I've seen the training and amateur events are on tracks where the walls are much farther away so there's considerably less damage risk.
I get drifting per se, I bet we all get it. What we don't get is building a multiple-thousand dollar, several hundred man-hours car JUST FOR DRIFTING!
That's said, it's hard to say if that car is a nightmare or wet dream! Either way I love it!
Drifting is fun.. but I do not see it as a serious automotive competition. It does seem to bring in advertizing dollars, so you gotta look good while being out there destroying your car against the walls while engulfed in clouds of smoke
Drifting is as much - or as little - of a competitive sport as ice skating, ballroom dancing, surfing or skateboarding. All of those have the common trait that judges decide who wins.
In racing, the stopwatch should decide. I think drifting is a competitive motorsport....and one that requires really amazing car control. I don't think it is racing.
Ha, did you see the EMS was MS? Also, I'm not certain I "get" buying a brand new car and taking it down to that level. I guess it happens all the time in racing (body in white?), but jeebus, seems like the expensive way to make what in essence here is almost a tube frame car. Also, didn't know that s54 was that durable. My E36 M3 could use that kind of giddyup.
I don't think he bought a new, complete car. There's a photo of him picking up just the chassis from the factory. So I think he started with a bare shell, completely bare meaning no doors, no suspension, nothing. Not even as complete as a body in white. How someone buys that I don't know.
Very nice build, but after spending all that money he goes for the very cheapest full threaded coilovers on the market? The shock valving sucks and they're not especially durable, ask me how I know.

Drifting is to motorsports what Two Girls One Cup is to film making.

To give him the benefit of the doubt, custom coilovers seem to often take some time to order and get delivered, so it's possible the "cheapies" were installed to keep the project moving. I'd imagine they would be fine holding the car off the ground and rough-setting the suspension geometry.
