I think every race should be on a road course ala V8 supercars.....
Speedway fans have run and hide for a bunch of reasons so they need to do something.
Cup cars on the road course Saturday night for the 400.
Spec Miata as a support event Friday night. No entry cap. $20,000 to win.
You're welcome.
I'd watch it. I won't watch 2 1/2 hours of rolling gridlock. I'll catch the "big one" on the highlights and call it good. The last few races I've peeked in on have had A LOT of empty seats. Seems like they have nothing to lose. I do think they would need to move the start/finish for a NASCAR race. I can't even imagine turn 1 on the first lap or restarts.
I listened to an episode of Dale Jr's podcast with whoever the president of NASCAR is these days. Reading between the lines, I think there are some major changes coming after 2020 when the current track contracts expire. The Gen-6 car also sounds interesting.
They've already moved the second Daytona race to much later in the year starting next year. Pocono is getting a double-header weekend next year with cup races Saturday and Sunday.
I think NASCAR has finally realized it has to do something if they want to stop losing fans.
