This might be really dumb, but... the "blower position" control in my car is served by five vacuum lines, about 1/4" in diameter. I've now taken that switch out. Can I drive the car with these lines disconnected or will it cause a vacuum leak at the engine?

it will be a leak, albeit probably a small one, usually there is a vacuum reservoir with a check valve in case you're accelerating and need to change the setting. also without the check valve it will go to the default (usually defrost) every time you hit the gas.

actually, i think you'll only need to plug the "source" line, not all 5. presumably the vacuum comes from the engine, then is distributed by the switch to select the various settings.

What Strizzo said. Just find/plug the vacuum line from the intake to the vac. accumulator; don't mess with the lines behind the dash.
