Got offered a smoking deal on a hans. $150
Its a hans 20l extra, with tethers and mounts. Needs recertified, with will cost 50 or so after shipping.
Im not sure if this is what i want or need though, and i cant seem to find a ton specific to this.
Ill be doing hpde, working up to tine trials and hillclimbs. Lots of roval tine as well.
The cars i run have five points or standard three points. I will still need to get a closed face helmet, but already have the firesuit and shoes as well.
So, can yall educate me right quick?
Most important thing is recert (depending on what organization you run with) and the Hans fitting correctly. They also have different designs for sports cars, open wheel, etc. based on the angle of seating so make sure it will work for your application.
For the helmet you will need one that can be drilled for posts and the post hardware kit. Should be available from most retailers.
You will definitely need a 5 or 6 point harness...most organizations require a properly installed 6 pt. You'll also need a seat with shoulder belt pass throughs that allow the belts to line up with your Hans properly. Shoulder belt width can also be an issue...I think I needed a 2" shoulder belt on my car to fit the Hans.
Many newer helmets come pre-drilled and threaded for posts. Take a look. Hans also doesn't work with a 3 point belt, only 5 or 6. The only neck restraint I'm aware of that works with a 3 point is the Simpson Hybrid (or something like that, forget the exact name). Sounds like a good deal...have it restrung and you'll be good to go. Get a SA2020 rated helmet.
For that price; if it fits you can't go wrong.

A traditional HANS will also work with 4pt or 7pt
