I've got a line on a Toyota 22RE out of an 85 Celica. My truck has a head gasket problem. Will these swap over directly? The intake fan and pulleys look to be in the exact same spot as the 4Runner's. The only reason I'm in a hot sweat is this is close, and I need to get to work, so I need as little amount of time into this swap as possible. I know I can use the long block, but in and out would be ideal.

Here's the CL add: 22RE out of an 85 Celica

What is it going in to?

If you swap the intake and EFI stuff from one to the other, you should be OK. I'm not sure what changes to the EFI there were between 85 and 87, and who really knows the state of that motor. Really, though, it is a lot less work to pull the head and put a new gasket in than to do a motor swap. You could have been done already had you just started doing it instead of worry about it. You can even leave the intake on.

You can leave the header on as well, if you are in a real rush and have a hand to help lift a fully assembled head/intake/exhaust setup.

Hess, the problem is I don't know the condition of the original head. If it is in any way tweaked, I'm screwed. I can't get to work. Believe me, if it was warm out, I'd be tearing into it. I appreciate the confidence building, though.

Buy an exchange cylinder head from your local rebuilder?

Probably be much farther ahead in the long run.

Remember, people don't often take something out because it's running well.

The seller claims the convertible rotted out around it. Around here that's believable.
