The original triumph tr4 steering shaft is going away since it was worn, weedy and missing a few pieces. I'm replacing with 3/4" hollow shaft. It's pretty much a straight shot from the rack through the firewall, but I'm not super excited about a solidly mounted spear aimed at my chest. Would you just deal or add a u-joint with a little offset before the firewall?

You could get away with a solid steering shaft if you have a 4+pt harness (since you should never get that close to the steering wheel anyway). Otherwise, you can get them from any car made in the disco era or later, or you can get an aftermarket one meant for custom cars.
