We just bought a house on 3 acres of land...which was just enough land for me to carve out a little dirt track. The other day I came home from work, drove right past my wife standing in the driveway, and made a couple of laps on the track in my Amazon wagon. Good stress relief. My wife laughed and shook her head as I puttered up to the house.
Any upcoming Rallycrosses in the Baltimore area?
A track on 3 acres?! Hrm. I was looking at the 500 acres available next o my aunts 30 acres (mine in the future) and thought, "That would be nice for a circle, rallycross, moto, etc track. It used to be a grass floor airport. It would mean more cutting... and spending $500,000 before being taken up the rear by the bank because I can't afford that...

This looks like the ultimate! However, unlikely to happen unless someone owns a big plot and is willing to take on the risk/write up the waiver.
Thats ClemSparks in the brown and me in the Cadavalier Hornet. See thread: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/what-i-do-for-funback-40-racing/46791/page1/

That's WDCR region for rallycross (us). Next rallycross is at Summit Point Motorsports Park, not this weekend but next. If you want to go, sign up fast. We always fill up to our max. 60. Several of the e30 crew come down from North of Baltimore. It's a hike but well worth it.
You can sign up on DLBracing.com or hit me up via email for more information.
Suquehanna region (a bit closer to you) puts on events occasionally, but it's been an on-and-off program and I'm not sure what their status is right now after an event got cancelled earlier in the year.

I've run the idea in my head to see if I could buy a few acres of just land for cheap. Don't need electric, gas, water, etc. Hell, barely need frontage to access I suppose.

You should always be able to gain access to your property using the most accessible means. My aunt owns he street, so everyone gets to use it.

I used to DC Rallycross about 7 or 8 years ago, the last time I lived in the area. Back then we used some farmer's field down in Culpeper, VA. I'd drive 3 hours to get there. Summit Point is half that distance from where we live now (Westminster, MD). If I can talk the wife into it, I'd love to give it a go. I assume it's similar in terms of car requirements, i.e. no cage needed, basic auto-x tech inspection, helmet, etc?

Yes. We have loaner helmets available if you don't have one and don't mind a bit of extra dust
There is a direct link to the registration on the website

and registration opens at 8pm tonight.

Yes. You should be rallycrossing the RX-8.

Wait.... you've got 15" wheels on the front and 16" wheels on the back?
Apropos of nothing, I was just discussing suspension travel in the RX-8 and its potential as a rallycross car.

17s on the back. Because nobody makes a wide sub-26" snow tire in 15".

Depends on the day, I only have 1 set of 16s (soon to be 2 sets) but I have 4 sets of 15s (used to be 5 sets)
I normally just use 15s
also rx8 would be great, remove sway bars and give it a go, you could probably "downgrade" the brakes to FC brakes to clear 15" gravels

.........................If it was not an S2 I would in an instant, but all of you have be thinking about this a lot harder then I need to be.
If anyone has some 17's with some aggressive tread I can use for an event ill think about it..............
In reply to JtspellS:
Here in detroit picking up a beat up rx7 is sub 5000 range, especially with a "blown" or blown engine.
I've been tempted to want to get one to make a g2 rally car but I think it makes more sense (from a dollars perspective) to go FC or FB for that since you may just buy someones old race car and parts are cheaper.
Only problem I see is the FB/FC's are getting more and more slim as the days go on, and here in Baltimore the early build 8's are going for around the same price as the FB/C's.

Roberto Moreton, the current leader in WDCR MR class, was recently talking about selling his '88 RX7 (which also won PR class last year). I think the engine is stock, suspension has upgrades, rally tires, sunroof delete, and a full roll cage. Anyhow, if you come down to this event I'm sure you could talk to him about it (or I can put you in touch with him if you are interested).
It's quick. It's the only car that has beaten me all season, and it's done that in 4 of 6 events
This is the car:

welcome to the club! after a lot of procrastination and generally being a big Bob Costas I went to my first rallyx last year, and autox doesn't even register on my radar anymore (although to be honest i was never going to be super competitive in my car). the dynamics of the car and course, the commeraderie, and great people....can't wait to get dirty again and back that thing into the turns. did my second one a few weekends ago and i was grinning like an idiot again.

Did not know he had interest in selling, will be coming down next weekend in the P5 (hopefully racing and bringing others) and may have to talk with him, my problem is I don't want an "easy" entry, I want to build the car how I feel is comfortable, to my personal specs and all that other romantic stuff.
That and I already have to park on the street (kinda) so I don't the apartment residents would be too fond of me for taking up 3 spots in an area with already tight parking.

Don't get me wrong - I don't want anyone to buy it locally. It's the fastest and highest-prepped car in MR, in my opinion. But I felt obligated to put it out there.
He put a "testing the waters" email out on the Yahoo group for DC Rally a month ago or so. I think he's looking to get back into AWD class where he started.
For all you RX-8 fence-sitters...

I've been racing LeMons since '08, so I'm covered for safety gear. Just need to drag my 4 door Amazon out of the weeds and drive it to work for a few days to iron our the bugs. October's too close, but wife gave me green light for the November rally.
Drive it like you hate it.

Ken says he stills finds mud in places and I don't think he has rallycrossed that in years.
