Does a car need to be legally titled and licensed to rallycross? I found an old beater car for cheap on CL with no title. Can I rallycross it?

All I really need is factory seatbelts and a helmet, correct? Will a motorcycle helmet work or does it need to meet certain racing specs?

And windows, working brakes, wheels that aren't going to fall off etc.
Helmet can be Snell M2000 or newer (through this year).
Here are the rules: http://cdn.growassets.net/user_files/scca/downloads/000/011/946/2016_SCCA_RallyCross_Rules.pdf?1456951438
Just hit up those rules and check in with the region you want to race with. Some groups have loaner helmets if yours isn't Snell M2000/SA2000 or newer.
Tech-wise, if it has a factory roof, nothing will fly around inside (you, the car battery, the seat, etc.), and the wheels won't fall off, it should pass. We explicitly will wiggle your wheels for bad bearings/broken suspension, look for working brakes and throttles, the battery must be tied down (bungies are bad, ratchet straps are okay, and brackets are best), the seat must be attached, and your seat belts need to be mounted safely (factory is always okay; harnesses need to be "not stupid").
Have fun!

You'll have to check with your local rallycross chapter on the specs, where are you located?
In reply to Fupdiggity:
In between Dayton and Lima OH. I did a little looking around online and the only events I found near me were Greenfield OH, about two hours away. Not terrible, but is there anything closer that in missing?
Detroit region occasionally has events in Wauseon, OH. This year we have most of our events in Greenfield but there are a couple in Middletown and one in Waynesville.
If all goes according to plan, by this time tomorrow I will be the proud owner of the world's slowest race car.
In reply to EvanB: Okay, I read through the rule book and I think I have a grasp on things, but heres another question. I want to stay legal for stock class, it says I can have a rollcage. Can the rollcage be any design I see fit? Or could someone say that it adds too much rigidity to the chassis and have that bump me to a different class?

I used to rallycross a 1983 Chrysler LeBaron with a carbureted 2.2 with a bad ignition computer that made 84 HP stock, and probably closer to 60 in the shape it was in. I suspect anything you bring should do alright
Not to mention, if it's muddy, power won't matter much...

Technically there are no standards you have to meet for the roll cage. If the safety steward (me ) deems it unsafe then we can prevent you from running but as long as it is well constructed you would be fine. You could be protested if you remove too much of the interior to fit the cage.
You will likely find that the weight from an overbuilt roll cage will hurt you more than the stiffness will benefit.
I got the car tonight. 93 Beretta with a 2.2liter and a five speed. It needs an engine, which I have. And it lacks a title. But at $100 I can definitely say I wasted more on stupider stuff.
I had a '90 Beretta GT back around '94 or so, but autotragic. Hope to see you soon. (Blue Subarust that's not terribly quick but looks the part with all the go-fast vinyl.)
