When I got my SCCA license I had carefully read the rules and followed them.
My first national race I showed up with my Jaguar XK 150 that I selected because it had disk brakes, rack and pinion steering, a 3.8 liter engine producing 265 hp and 3 two inch SU carbs.
Another Jaguar was there but it was a XK120 one of the early all aluminum ones. Originally it had drum brakes and recirculating ball steering. A 3.4 liter engine producing 160 hp and two 1&3/4 SU carbs.
What I failed to understand was what back dating and updating meant.
As a result. He had updated the 120 with all the stuff I had but he had a lighter car so he could ballast the weight where he wanted. Plus the engine was further back. In short it had better balance.
Now I want to race SVRA group 10 even lists my car. Except it's with cars from 1973-2017
SVRA's rules says that if it's not been used on a car that has been raced it's not allowed. That makes sense. Sorta, if a turbo (s) has been used does that mean I can put a turbo(s) on mine? Coil on plug if it's been used sometime between 1973 & 2017 can I do that?
What rules are treated with a wink and a nod? For example some of the TransAm cars I saw had modern heads modern intake manifolds etc on their Small block Chevies
