I was in the boat, we got 2nd in class C. The Class C winner was like 40+ laps ahead of us! So despite us making a couple flubs (ran out of gas on track, I took it in when it was overheating but should have just short-shifted it instead) we definitely did the best we could do. The C winner was the supercharged Delta 88 so it was actually pretty dang fast.
The Snoopy car GTO would have gotten Heroic Fix since they managed to patch the hole in their engine block with a license plate and run on three cylinders, but the powers that be felt their pegging the inside wall at the carousel with the Reatta meant their team shouldn't get the trophy. I wanted them to get something since they not only did the awesome fix that kept running, they even pushed the boat in off track when it died on the checker flag lap! With three cylinders and a license plate patched block!
The Charlie Brown car was the Reatta - it was pretty banged up when it hit the inside wall. I'm not even sure how you end up hitting the inside wall of the carousel but it was a crowded track.
The boat died at the end seemingly due to a failed fuel pump. Perfect timing though. Well, I guess it would have been even more perfecter if the fuel pump had died after it was on the trailer, but whatever. It was better than it dying Sunday AM.
I can not believe nobody was injured in Saturday night's festivities. Proof positive that God protects drunks.
Boat driver #2 here. As David said, the boat did well. For the most part, it ran consistently and turned laps. Had no real on track incidents to speak of with it...people tend to give it a lot of room on track. I was behind the wheel at the checkered flag when it crapped out. The more I think about it, I wonder if the fuel pump was on it's way out most of that shift. Really sucks too, as I was nose to tail with our team car when the checkered flag fell (truth is he lapped me). Would have been awesome to do the parade lap together. But it was quite the surprise when the Snoopy car pulled up next to me and asked me if I wanted a push. I wasn't aware of the repair they had made to the block, but I knew it had been running poorly and sounded horrible. When he got behind me to push, I was thinking "He's going to blow his engine trying to push this boat off track". Little did I know he already did blow the engine and did an epic repair to it.
Haven't seen video yet, but somehow the Reatta spun and hit the inside wall on a very highly banked corner.
It was a great time and can't wait to run again. Also have to mention that our race team, lead by Sonic, did an amazing job in repairing our other team car. One of our drivers had another car cut directly in front of them and then jam on their brakes. Took out the radiator, upper tie bar, damaged the hood and front bumper. We had the car repaired and back on track in roughly 45 minutes. Awesome!!!
The car # 350 Chevy Malibu finished 9th overall.
I didn't get to talk to anybody from the forum while I was there.
See you guys at CMP?

I thought you seemed sober when I stopped by and said hi, but maybe you just hide it better then me.
Just kidding, we already knew each other so I probably don't qualify as "from the forum."

If you ran out of gas on the track then yeah the fuel pump failed on you. Those GM in tank pumps are notorious for that. If you run them out of gas they overheat and they are not long for the world afterwards.
I think I got one from a camaro sitting on a shelf here if needed. BNIB.
The E30/6 Guys had a good time other than having to change out a head gasket after throwing a water pump belt and overheating epicly Saturday around 12:30 (I was driving). I remember seeing a belt on the track on the "Stone House Straight" and thinking "Oooh! That's Baaad for somebody!" Just short of a lap later I checked the water temp and realized the gauge was pegged hard! That little slant raced two full laps without a working water pump! Once we changed out the head gasket it didn't miss a beat for or use any oil for the rest of the weekend!

Ding! Ding! Ding! The run before the boat crapped out, it ran out of gas on Sonic. We pushed it into the pits, refilled it and I hopped in. I still don't think I drove it as well as I could have, but it still felt odd to me. It didn't feel the same as it did when I drove it in Friday's test session. Friday I needed to use 4th sometimes as I hit the shift light. I never hit the shift light on Sunday.
cpdave, Glad to see you posting. I had no idea what was in your car until someone on my team told me. That is absolutely awesome!

Yep, yep, yep. I sold an average of three of those a day at NAPA.

Yep, 1970s 225 Cid Dodge Slant 6 and 1965 Dodge A904 Push Button auto. Makes a suprisingly good race car. We plan to hack & weld the exhaust manifold (split it into duals) and dig up a used Holley 500 CFM 2 barrel to uncork it a bit. Maybe by Fall CMP.
The car was based on a comment by Judge Phil "I don't want to see another E30 unless it has a slant 6 in it!" The guys who founded the team (I have yet to meet the car's owner) said "We can do that!"

that is FANTASTIC! Way to take a dare....
I was wondering why the air cleaner was on the hood.
The V8 E30 did alright again. We had a few small problems that took some time off track (sticking/melted throttle cable, hood pin that didn't want to stay put, and a driver who accidentally turns the car off when he tries to hit the radio button then sits along the track for 10 minutes waiting for a tow before he tries to restart it).
We also had a terrible miss the entire race. It started at the end of the NJ race, and we thought we had it fixed with a new coil and module, but that was not the case. Will have to dive deeper. It is a miss that happens around 3500-4200ish, above or below that and it is fine.
