Fun episode, they don't appear to be very good drivers (might just be the editing) and it'd be interesting how the cars would do if it was a properly timed, scored, and driven autocross. Instead of a Kia a Miata would have been a bit more of a legit benchmark.....

Or at least a PROPER kia. I mean, an automatic Rio base model? How do you NOT beat that?

They actually struggled pretty hard to beat it the first time around in episode 25. The El Camino and the Crusher Camaro were the only 2 cars they brought that beat it and by a margin of less than 3 seconds. But they also brought a lot more questionable junk the first time around.

I'm really glad Lucky has gotten himself in on the MT network. He's been really fun to watch with Tony on the Hot Rod Garage show. It's nice to have an experienced guy on the show who also hasn't been drinking the moneyed-career Kool-Aid quite as hard.

If they could get a big front bar and an aluminum-headed 454 in that Mazda instead of that Olds boat anchor, it would be a total beast.

The Olds 455 is actually a good bit lighter than a Chevy 454. A set of heads and a cam on the 455 would get it up to speed, without having to adapt the Toronado transaxle to a Chevy bolt pattern. And I'm not sure how much power you would want to try and put through a Toronado transaxle and Corvair rear axles anyways. The next episode is about them trying to get it to run 10 second e.t.s like the PO said it would though.

Being one of those chumps that spent the money on the 1 year subscription to that thing. I'm just going to say that things got pretty exciting when they added nitrous.

I've been meaning to subscribe to Motor Trend On Demand, I just keep forgetting to do it.

So, can anyone let me know how they get away with the lack of safety gear? Kinda cool, I liked this one.

They need to sell " IT RUNS 10s" t-shirts.

Looking at it, the lower control arms look stock (which are plenty beefy stock). The half shafts are definitely not stock. In the Toronado conversions, they have to be radically shortened so just getting new ones is likely. It looks like it has Corvair hubs (and late style trailing arms), those might be an issue, but I have not heard of that being a problem with V8 conversions (some of which can get quite powerful).

Watched the new episode, pretty good. Is it wrong that I almost like the stock truck they show better?

At the autocross, it's literally just them in a rented lot. The mazdarati at the drag strip, rented track and the truck was really slow.

But they ran it in a three day drag comp and we're deep in the 11's. That's not slow, at least to me it isn't! !!!!!

I thought they were at least wearing a helmet for those, but yeah now that you mention it, that's deep into territory where that truck definitely doesn't pass tech.

NHRA changed the rules recently, you don't need a rollbar until 11.49, which they didn't beat until the very end, on nitrous. Had they not oiled the track down, they would not have been permitted any more nitrous runs. Your first infraction is "free", usually.

Oh sweet, so I don't have to worry about putting cages in either of my trucks ever, no matter how stupid I get with them.
