Thanks to this thread, I caught the new DED episode.

Excellent apples to submarines analogy. Now back to the real world........where YouTube is more addictive than cocaine.....
But FREE COKE!!!!!! can backfire on you way worse than free content
I liked Motor Trend enough that i subscribed to MTOD no questions asked. But, it didn't work worth a E36 M3 on my smart tv, so i gave up on it. I figure i will eventually try it again and see if it works now but in the case of me who has been a subsriber to MT for 20 years and a shoo-in to try something they're releasing, they completely botched the roll-out. Their bad.
I feel bad for the hosts and for the crews that make these shows. I get the impression they're in a pretty tough spot being the face of decisions they didn't make that could ultimately tank their shows.
YouTube is a necessary evil for those of us who can't devote massive resources to distribution. Moving off of YouTube onto proprietary distro is going to be a painful Band-Aid rip, but it's wholly necessary if they want to continue to expand the brand.
That said, don;t think I don't sit around and imagine the kind of content we could produce if we had their resources. At some point I hope we face the same choices on distribution, because that means we will have outgrown our need for outlets like YouTube and Facebook.
MTOD is a bit of a PITA to use, when i subscribed it was all MT based production shows. I actually enjoyed using the site since it was relatively easy to navigate and the majority of the content was good. Now the site is plagued with velocity fabricated drama, filler and a general lacking of automotive content. The shows are more about office dynamics, nerf gun wars and everything but turning wrenches. Sure roadkill has some of that as well but not to the same extent where half the show is a about some guys nose/ability to smell paint or other BS, like old weightlifting days. I'm watching for car content, not the greasy version of the kardashians.
Side Note: Cammisa and Lagos were the best hosts of ignition/head to head, not too keen on the british guy and Lieberman is meh at best. Randy Pobst shoot out show was great, shame it was cancelled.
I used to love Roadkill and Dirt Every Day. They aren't worth putting up with the hassle and cost of subscription to MTOD though. Throw some commercials as needed and let me watch again. It's not like their budgets are so massive that they won't make it if they don't have paid subscribers. Inflated budgets just ruin most shows anyway. Look at wheeler dealers. Adding the idiotic drama is quick way to lose me too. If I ever watch something like "Graveyard Carz" it's done so with the mute button on until they come to the 5% of the show that is tech info. Too bad PBS doesnt have a car TV show in the same vein as woodwrights workshop or this old house.
I can just imagine somebody like Norm Abrams carefully restoring an old Triumph or Datsun while explaining the process and visiting specialist vendors that show how they refurbish components. Imagine the video version of CMS's Lotus!
I recently subscribed. First priority was catching up on roadkill garage.
Does Randy Pobst still do the racing line shows? They're fun to watch just for his personality.
Just tried to watch an episode and the commercial kept looping without ever starting the actual Roadkill episode. Guess I'm done then. I'd watch it with commercials, I'm fine with that, but their video service blows.
I get it through the Prime channel. I was just thinking I was going to cancel it when they started making the other Velocity shows available without commercials. In spite of myself, I love the Diesel Brothers. So for now at least, it's worth it to me.
the app works great on my iphone. i only used the website to sign up initially. i don't like to waste that much time at a computer (since that's what I do all day for work)

I think he does. He also does some other kind of grassroots stuff on YouTube as well through another channels name that eludes me right now. Racing Volvos and Miata's that sort of thing.
