Should/can I trust wheel bearings from rockauto? Everything else ive ordered from them works great.

Which wheel bearings? For what? The SKF, FAG, Timken, etc. is top notch OE grade (or better) stuff, the cheap no name crap is cheap no name crap, brands like Raybestos, Mevotech, or Moog are going to be comparable to parts store house brands.

Probably centric. Ive used them for brake parts on the beetle but as its not driving I have no idea how they are quality wise.

Just pay more for some good ones from a parts store.

I've bought both skf and timken from them before, and have no issues so far.

If it's a unit bearing the biggest factor for how long it lives is whether the axle nut gets properly torqued. That's the most common mistake.

Best deal I got on Timkens was Amazon Warehouse Deals. $130 for a $270 bearing, brand new in the box. Not gonna find front bearings for a 4WD Superduty for less than that. Plus Rock Auto's shipping sucks.

Are you suggesting RockAutos SKF brand is different from a parts store?

Centric is a very high quality brand, but they do not manufacture their wheel bearings. That said, they do stand behind their warranty.

I would, however, look up the part number on Amazon. Rock Auto's shipping is atrocious.

I've ordered Timken and SKF hubs with bearings from RockAuto before. No complaints.

Their shipping is high, but I live in Canada where you get soaked on shipping no matter what.

Amazon is only occasionally cheaper since they don't stock all the same stuff in Canada - I recently got a set of Civic shock mounts for $6 each with Prime although they only had two in stock and promised to send me the other two sometime in the future.

FAG is what I generally look for when replacing European car bearings.

Timken was good but I have heard there quality has slipped a bit in the last couple years. No personal experience. Also make sure you use the proper grease when packing bearings. Wrong grease will lead to quick failure.

And I can not stress it enough how important torque is on frount hubs. Especially fords.

you're not buying RockAuto bearings ... you're just using them as a source/wear house / middle man

scroll through the offering as you usually do and buy the brand name you want

+1 - also, the worst parts I have ever gotten have come from ebay when helping friends that bought their own. Ebay part could probably be a source for longest forum thread...

Im flip flopping between ordering from black dragon auto who carry lots of Z parts or getting one from rockauto. Black dragon doesnt list a brand and is damn near the same price as rockauto.

You're seriously considering a no-name wheel bearing from a company called "Black dragon" or a clearly identified wheel bearing from Rock at similar prices why?

In reply to foxtrapper:

Black dragon is one of the few reputable Z car pafts people. But just checked rockauto and they got timken bearings in stock for my car so I ordered those after reading about how good they supposedly are.

No, I was suggesting that it's easier to buy them from a parts store; no shipping, and warranty claims would be a lot easier.
