I drove musclecars through the van craze but built one in the early 90's for fun with all the retro 70's styling cues. Glass hood, sun visor, front spoiler and an A team style wing up top. Tube grill, running boards, fat tires on alloy wheels, shag carpet, paneling, bed, swivel captains chairs and a bumpin stereo system that was way beyond what was available in the 70's. Was a fun truck.

I swear nobody can do creepy-perverted like the Japanese can.
What's with all this past tense? I still have a super-groovy van--- although mine is in desperate need of a mural. I thought about a "Last Supper" scene on the rear of the topper, incorporating all of the van stereotypes---- ( a wizard, a princess, a unicorn, maybe a howling wolf or two). Of course Jesus, Elvis and Dale Earnhardt would also have to be included......

In reply to Appleseed: looks like Joe rattled it and put moon caps on it when he got it. Fairly sure they're the same van.
I thought maybe they came in pairs.
A mural of the Red Baron and Snoopy dog fighting in the air while riding winged unicorns and shooting at each other with cupcakes and rainbows.
..anyway...that's my suggestion.
^^^ and a good suggestion at that!
Yes, that's my van when I first got it. I gutted the interior, rattle-canned the exterior with primer, and added the moon-disks for aerodynamics! Then I had the couch- bed redone in sturdy vinyl. I also picked up a set of super-comfy captains chairs from the junkyard in nearly perfect shape. I also found a set of old bedsheets that I had as a kid with Can-Am cars, GT-40's and all kinds of cool 60s racers on them. These became the curtains--with the help of Tom Heath's wife Rhonda. Tom helped a bunch with the van too.
Oh yeah, and of course I added the hula girl to the dash--- straight from Hawaii no less!
I had no idea those images were posted on that site.....including me on the can. Interesting to see what's floating around on the interwebs.....
I still need another full size van in my life. I was vanning from '03-'09 while I had it, they still have van runs these days.

I love these things, but don't have enough driveway to have one around all the time.
"Vannin' the Movie" is a documentary that some friends of mine in Chicago did.
You may be interested in some of the culture, or maybe you are part of the culture?

I have a die cast of that van some where around here. Gotta find it and post a pic.
Custom vans RULE. I want to build one someday, but I think I'll end up living in it if the wife finds out.
Make mine a 70's panel van of some sort with this painted on the side:
If you are a video game dork, you will understand.
