Hey guys iv put a few miles on my FC after the swap and the rear end feels like crap! Springs are to soft and the rear struts are shot. So im at work today and saw some springs from QA1 looks like I have 2 sets don't know size but I know one is a 350# spring the other seems like a 250# but its a progressive spring to. Both seam much stiffer then the ones on my car now and seem to be about the right length at 10" (my car is very low) so does anyone know or have a guess on the diameter? I have looked online it looks like a 150# for drag racing and a 350# for road racing so I might get lucky there. Also saw that the stock springs are 14"? but with my car being low 10" sounds right but who knows.
If these things might fit im going to try them on the car then pay work back for them if they work. No need to drag them home for the weekend if they are the wrong diameter. Any help would be grate!
That's what I needed! thanks! Pulled out the new struts and one side was good and the other was blown. With new springs it doesn't bottom out anymore and handles much better. Next new struts.
Also what springs weight would you put in a street auto-x car?
I had 7kg/mm (~400lb/in) front and 5kg/mm (~275lb/in) rear springs on mine with a Racing Beat front and stock rear sway bar and it handled with a hint of understeer at the limit that could be turned to easy, progressive oversteer at the limit with proper technique. It was a nice, safe, quick setup for track use, but for autocross, one might want it a little more tail happy. Those spring rates were the standard Mazda recommended starting point for an ITS road race car.
If I had to do it over again, for my mainly street use, I'd go a little softer, as it was a little harsh on the street, even though most coilovers had rates higher than that, some close to double.
I put the 180# springs in and they seem to ride really well but the struts are bad so I will really get after it when I get new struts. I also have the set of 275# I can toss under the car is I want to.
