If there was a fire where I lived like that I would drive my project out of there and leave my DD behind lol. My DD can be replaced much more easily.

This wasn't something he could simply "drive" out of there. He mentioned he had no time to get it out.
Our neighbors used to live in California and had to evacuate asap due to an approaching fire. In the garage, a partially restored Jag. Either the Jaguar will burn up in the garage or burn up on the road heading out of town when it dies, they figured. The Jag made it to safety. Their house and the Jag parts left behind didn't, though.
A friend's dad lives in Paradise. She posted the firefighter's map of his neighborhood. They showed his house as okay. Every other house was shown as destroyed.
