I'm not sure how many of you are aware, but the Bonneville Salt flats need help. With mining, and weather patterns brining more rain to the area, the salt has deteriorated to a point where it's no longer usable for racing. This group is putting pressure on the "powers that be" to help the salt flats heal--- and they've made some positive steps, including a drawing a petition to bring this to the attention of the federal government:

I think that they should just move it to the Black Rock desert and do it at the same time as Burning Man. What could go wrong?
But seriously, Bonneville is the American speed event that I most want to see. Mainly for the whole scene - the multitude of interesting cars and the range from nickel-and-dime privateer through big bucks operators. Is there another major motorhead event that retains the same degree of original flavor as at its inception?
It's an amazing place, and on my bucket list for sure. Anyone who has an interest in the history of the salt flats should make a point of seeing "The Boys of Bonneville" it's a fantastic look at how and why they started running out there. Ab Jenkins was a racing hero--- and someone we should all know about.
