HANS, helmet, multi-layer suit, gloves, and shoes... who would you recommend? I'm in SoCal and would drive to LA if there's a "racing superstore" to try the stuff on first, but understand such places may not exist in brick and morter. I realize that there are always places such as www.saferacer.com but thought I'd ask about physical stores first.

bumping (and watching) this thread. I may also need such gear in the distant future.

FYI - Saferacer usually has a 10% off coupon code floating around. It's often given to Spec Miata racers. Google can help.

As for the brick and mortar stores, I would think that your area would be the most likely in the country to have one. But I have no particular suggestions.

Only place I've seen that always stocks a wide variety of those items is Summit Racing, and they only have 3 locations (GA, OH, NV).

If you're looking to buy the whole kit in one go, you might also check out the 24 hours of Lemons website. They usually have a decent deal on the whole package IIRC.

If you'll be in DC/Northern Virginia for any reason, OG Racing (I believe they are an advertiser) has a great brick-and-mortar store with great staff...
