I've been looking all over, and I seem to find two schools of thought when it comes to the oil pan for the SBF into a miata. On one side, you have people saying you have to modify the portion of the pan that goes over the steering rack, the other side says you don't really gain anything, the stock pan is fine.

Also, as a side note, they recommend if you are making your own mounts, locate the motor bias to the passenger side. This gives you a little extra room for the headers vs the steering column.

Anyone who has some insight on this matter? I've been looking for the dimensions of the stock pan vs a modified pan with no luck. I've also been looking at after market rear sump pans and I wonder if there is one that would give me the extra room plus a little baffling (become women love baffling).

Thanks for the help!

You'll need to modify the pan to get the sbf under the stock hood.

If you modify the pan, you "may" have some issues later on. (ever heard a crank banging on the pan? - no, i didn't do the modification)

Keith may chime in on the LS motor vs. the sbf - I think he claims a lower c.g.(?) for the LS.

Personally, I don't believe you can scootch the motor around to make room for anything . . . .

That's what I figured. I don't want anything to hit the pan really... lol... I wonder if the Moroso pan I was looking at would be a good fit. I should measure a fox body pan one of these days
