It's gonna be a long day out there. Wonder if it's gonna be a repeat of 2014 with it getting dark before they are done or if they are only gonna do 2 or 3 runs on the second course.

I have yet to understand why national rally crosses move so slowly. When we hosted one of the national challenges events it basically had the same number of people as come to our regular events, but we ended up doing about half as many runs as our normal events. The national staff made everything move super slowly. Minor course changes took 20 minutes instead of five etc etc

Edit: obviously you know this because you are at both of the events that I'm talking about lol

Mainly because you have 5 different people from different regions trying to do one job and someone will complain about anything. By the time everyone agrees and you can move on it has killed 30 minutes.

They really should just send one dude to bring the trophies and let the hosting region do the rest of it.

And because everyone is suuuuuper anal about safety (and yet Nationals always seems to have the highest rate of rollovers despite the incredibly slow courses). Our last heat in 2018 had like 5 very minor course changes over things I didn't even see or feel on course. And at least one of them was mid-group and directly affected the outcome of a championship because they had to give half the class a rerun after the leaders had already ran.

Every time I read these threads it further solidifies my thought that I will never ever attend a national championship event..  literally everything I hear about them sounds like the kind of thing that would just make me pissed off all weekend

They do usually suck. But I'll go back again since it is a good time and I get to see people I only ever see at nationals.

And so I can say that even though I have never beat Josh I am still a national champion.

On a side note we have a 2-day double header at Summit point next weekend that should be a huge turnout especially in MR. You should roll out!

To loosely quote a Detroit rallycrosser "I'm glad I won so I never have to go back." Okay, I didn't win, but my car did and I got a podium spot, so close enough. I can't say I'll never be back but I haven't regretted it yet. We have semi-jokingly talked about getting some 15" wheels and cheap really tires and bribing grogan to let us run the boxster in PR. Not exactly sure how feasible it would be but it would be hilarious to win two championships at the same event in the same car.

Local region has a rallycross followed by a demolition derby.

Yeah we have two more double headers.... September and October I think. Not sure if they're at Summit points or at Panthera but probably doesn't make a big difference to you

Looks like Panthera is about an hour closer for me. I've got so much PTO saved from working from home and not going anywhere i should make the trip out. Maybe I should hurry up and finish the rx7 to bring out.

Looks like Shawn is holding out in pr so far, wonder if they are only doing 3 runs for prepared.

Impressed that Brianne is still in first even with a DNF on her last run. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

As to the E36 M3 show that is nationals.....yea. I've done the safety steward thing there. I won't work any job that has any actual responsibility at nationals again. I would like to attend again, I had fun with the competitors, I liked driving, I just want to distance myself from the organization/running of the event as much as possible.

Good luck to everyone there.

Gonna be like two runs on the afternoon course. They don't usually start out that aggressive with run count...that was probably a mistake. Are prepared cars supposed to have functional lights?

In reply to dps214 :

Prepared cars need functional lights. Doubt they would keep running it in the dark though.

I was very surprised at the 5 runs for the first course. You save those for Sunday after everything goes ok on the Saturday runs. They won't have cars starting the afternoon course until after 6 at the earliest.

If you actually look at the bottom of the class Pete dozeman is listed down there but his times don't add up correctly. If you actually add up his times correctly he is beating Brianne by a decent margin (in the same car) due to her dnf

I noticed that. His times add up to 276.something, good for the lead and just barely out pacing SR. Not really sure what's going on there.

In reply to EvanB (Forum Supporter) :

The class rules say lights are required but doesn't say anything about the number of lumens they put out.    There is a separate safety rule which automatically DQs cars without adequate lights at "low light events".  It would be funny if they didn't cancel the second course, then dqed half of mod.

The rules say lights are required.  The rules do not say the lights have to be functional.  (In any class)

This is just like you have to have all the parts for A/C, ABS, airbags, etc. in classes where removal is not permitted, but their function is not required.

There was a rule proposal from a larger region that basically wanted to ban Mod cars from running at night.  The rationale was, Mod cars don't have lights, so they are unsafe at night.

Problem is, the rules for Mod don't say you have to remove the lights, that's just one of those poorly thought out modifications that people do.

Some regions (like Detroit) actually have LIMITS on lights: Stock cars can have no aux lighting, Prepared are allowed one pair, Mod are unlimited.  Go to a Detroit event that runs past dusk and you need welding goggles to work the course when Mod cars go by smiley  .

Either way, the Safety Steward is expressly permitted to exclude cars for any reason, and not having lights after dark is a dang good reason.  You wanted to save two pounds by removing the lights?  Well, the risk you take is that of being disqualified for having an unsafe car.  No need to make a national rule for a local problem because the SS doesn't want to excercise his duties.
