So, I've been thinking about picking up a 2013-2016 BRZ/FR-S in order to run it in Solo Spec Coupe. The idea of having identical mods to competitors, with the focus being on driver skill, is appealing to me. So is the price of the full build costing less than some people spend on shocks alone.

I know the new 2022 Toyota GR86 and BRZ are being launched right now with the bigger, more powerful 2.4L. I'm assuming the SCCA won't be letting the new 2022+ car into SSC into anytime soon. But what about the 2017-2021 cars? I saw the GRM article about the old car vs new car on SSC mods essentially pulling the same times on a cone course, but I'm not entirely convinced the 2017+ car's 5hp/5tq and shorter final drive advantage won't give it a slight edge.

Are there any rumors about the SCCA letting the newer 2017+ cars into SSC? I would hate to spend the cash and prep a 2013-2016 car, just to find out that the newer car is now the "car to have".

I know SSC is the most popular class at Nationals (there are currently more SSC entries signed up for Nats than any other class), but I'm not sure if it's popularity is enough to keep the SCCA from letting the newer cars in.

When does the SCCA generally release their new rule books for the following year?

I haven't heard anything, but let me ping someone who might know of some rumors.

Don't think there's been anything in any fastracks this year, so at minimum at this point in the year nothing is changing for next year. The whole point of it is a spec class, I can't imagine they'd add in the newer cars until interest in the older ones dries up, or at least not without doing something to balance them out.
