Since I have to Miatas and no fear of failure I have a question. The challenge Miata is already seam welded. I was thinking about making a set of frog arms for it and another for my daily. Would frog arms be a benefit in addition to the seam welding or is it one or the other?

It would depend which lumber you chose. Something like a soft pine probably wouldn't work that well without being very bulky, hard maple on the other hand...

I apologize. I'll get my coat

You just made my morning.
Funny , I have no Idea what Frog arms are, but the wood to use in auto's is Ash, Morgan still uses it for Chassis I heard, Aircraft use Spruce/Sutka spruce,
Frog Arms are the name of a Miata chassis brace that's out of production.
On the V8 cars, we do both. You need that help with a high-torque engine and/or a stiff suspension. On a daily, I'd address the floorpan first.
OK yea, I don't Know Mazda's.

My thoughts are that they address different chassis design limits. So yeah..belts AND suspenders for the win.
Pete
Belt and suspenders. Got it.
Any design better than the others? Or are they pretty much the same? Just different in appearance.
really not much meat on a frog arm... but hey, everybody has their thing

Flyin Miata now sells "Strong Arms" from PacoMotorsports:

Frog Arms are the previous item they sold:

You guys made me laugh. Then I thought of back in the days when we went into town to watch the frog jumping contests on summer vacation. Damn I'm gettin old! We actually traveled to watch frog jumping contests for entertainment!
I didn't know what frog arms are, but if you'd said fender braces, I know all about those
Will they help in addition to seam welding? Well how much seam welding was done forward of the firewall? There's little to none that can be done there on most unibody cars, so fender braces would still be beneficial.
Actually, there's a lot of seam welding that can be done in that area. It definitely helps, but if I was really worried I'd be doing both. As I mentioned, it wouldn't be the first thing I'd do on a street car.
Boss Frog shut down, so Frog Arms are NLA. There are some poorly done cheapo copies and there are the "let's take it one step further" Paco Strong Arms. If you're welding up your own, the Frog Arm design is a lot easier to do.
In reply to Keith Tanner :
How thick are the Strong Arms and Frog Arms?
Looks like 3/16", is that OK for a DIY?

Would the frog arms design, as its a lit easier to make, be benefited by plating the open triangles? Make a torsion box from it.
Any other tweaks? Wish we had the budget to buy, but challenge car...
Challenge car, totally understood.
I don't think you'd benefit much from plating the Frog Arms. They're not a bad design at all IMO. Simply copying them will be pretty effective - but autocross rewards light weight more than it rewards chassis stiffness, so they may not be right for a Challenge car.
