Have you ever sat in a white leather interior of a Jaguar ( that has been properly maintained? ) it's buttery soft. Amazingly comfortable for those 18-20 hr drives that just soak up freeway miles?
The sedan doesn't force you into one position but still keeps you solidly in place as you pound down the freeway. You can shift around taking pressure off certain areas.
Yes the XKE held you snuggly behind the wheel as you drove around the lake with the top down. But that was a different car for a different purpose.
The most comfortable seat I have ever used for 30hr trips has to be the cloth GMT800 seats in the wife's 06 Sierra. Its one of those seats that you don't feel sore or tired, just tired of being in it.Proper HVAC and it doesn't need heated or cooled seats and it never burns your legs after sitting in the hot summer sun.
Cloth here. I love the sound-deadening first. Dad has two trucks that are pretty similar, one has cloth, one has leather. In the leather truck you have to talk decidedly louder to overcome the acoustics.
I also like cloth for not freezing (or frying) your backside.

I agree, but I might actually give a wee preference to the GMT400 seats. The cloth ribbed bench in Dad's 88 K2500 was the absolute best, and it lasted forever. It looked like it would be awful, but I could go forever in those seats.

I agree, they were good but they would break down the drivers seat faster than the 800's. I preferred the 60/40 split benches
At least on my classic sports cars, I really like leather (at least compared to vinyl). It is not much more expensive, holds up well and smells so, so good!

Leather is hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

Anyone know a source for some plaid cloth seat material? Was thinking that would be cool for my MG project.
https://www.modern-fabrics.com/ often has cool upholstery fabric. I've bought some from them in the past.

I moved the cloth driver's seat from my '85 RX-7 to my '84 when I had to give up on the rust. I figure I have 200k miles in that seat.
I generally find cloth to be more durable, and also more comfortable in hot weather.
Least favorite option: Vinyl. Save the PCV for water pipe. All the discomfort of leather in Atlanta summers plus far worse at cracking than the worst leather.

Aren't you afraid that people would mistake your car for a TR7? What MG are you working on?

I always wnts to maintain my car and for that I always take care of my seats and use the material of [cane canoe rub] for seats just because of that material of clothes seats is found to be looking good on seats.
Might I suggest: How to speak proper English
My last few cars have all had leather seating, and I do not use air conditioning unless I have a passenger. Never had an issue with sweaty seats, but then I prefer the heat and I am probably thinner than most people.
As far as cold leather in winter. There is a lot more to worry about than cold seats in that cold of weather.

Like, whose bright idea was it to make the shift knob out of a big aluminum chunk?
i assume it never gets cold in Sweden.

Alcantara. The cloth is less hot/cold in the seasons, grips better in the corners, and the seat heaters work so much better. It is hard to clean, but not that bad.

Alcantara for me thanks.
Same here. Love it. Even on the headliner. Put it everywhere.

And then there is the fine Corinthian leather they paid Ricardo Montalban to tout for Chrysler. Of course it isn't leather and it wasn't Corinthian either, but hey - they must have thought potential Chrysler buyers were too stupid to know that.
I always wondered of the paid Ricardo a bonus to make him mispronounce 'Cordoba' - it must have irked him as a Spanish speaker to intentionally butcher his language.

Normally I prefer leather (good leather). Like the seats in my 740iL and MINI Cooper:
They are fine in the summer and in the winter, they have the typical BMW heated seat settings: warm, hot, and Lava.
But I got the cloth seats in the Bolt (chose the LT trim level pretty much for this reason) vs the hard uncomfortable leather in the Premier trim. it's the quality of the leather that made the choice for me. Being heated cloth is a real bonus, however.
Used cloth seats seem gross too me. Imagine all the sweat, grime, and dirt asorbed from random people over the years.
BOTH !
leather on the wear areas where you get in and out of the seats ,
and cloth where you are going to sit and sweat :)

The driver's seat back on my RX-7 USED to be red. It's black now.
