What is the cheap way to get a fully functional set of seats for my 100% street driven Accord?

I need seats which both lean forward to let back seat folks out. I'd prefer not-leather.

I checked out the JY when I was there last but everything was either totally trashed, sedan, or both.

How much does one need to spend to get something decent? I am not going to throw crap on there, I already have seats, I just want to improve so my hips don't hurt after driving for a while.

Is there damage to the seat so that the answer is to replace with a better condition version of the same make, model, year?
Or
Is the general design of the factory seat for that make, model, year inferior to your liking and comfort?

I have a search bookmarked for "Recaro" on the various Craigslists in my region. Once in a blue moon a genuine set shows up for sub-$500, which is an absolute steal. I just haven't bought the car that would receive them yet

The problem with "what is comfortable" questions like this is that many people are happy with some pretty basic seats, and some seats are fantastic for some and horrible for others. All depends on how you're built and what you like. That said high-end aftermarket seats in general tend to deliver on their promises. If you ever find yourself at a Recaro dealer I highly recommend sampling the offerings even if they're out of your price range. If I had the money they would be in every car I own...but used ones at 30% of original cost are acceptable enough IMO.

Is there an Acura equivalent to your Accord?
Seat might be different/better but a perfect, bolt in, match.

The condition of the seats in terms of their frame rigidity, foam structure, and slider functionality (the passenger only has one slide lock) is poor.

The hot ticket is the Prelude seats, but they are ugly and are also old. I expect all old seats (the Accord is a 1988) to also be worn out similarly.

Have them re-upholstered? You can have them add any additional support where you want it.

That's an interesting idea. Any idea on $$ and source?

LeBaron Bonney makes upholstery kits. I've used a ton of them. For foam, I cut up back seats and take the foam and shape it to what I need.

I'm in the same boat. The driver's seat in my '90 Integra is in rough shape. Not only doesn't Honda/Acura sell parts for it, they no longer even have part numbers listed!

I wish I could just throw some other seats in there, but sadly, the receiver for the seat belt (with mouse-motor shoulder belt, ugh) is built in to the seat.

Check you local yellowpages. Or ask some guys at a local car show. They'll know who does the best work at the best price.

My guess on cost: couple hundred per seat.

You'll need to log in to post.
