Has this been discussed yet? Seems like a lot of car for the money, especially when compared to the competition.

Ford is quickly becoming my favorite domestic auto manufacturer. They have really upped their game in the last few years.
Aluminum block, flat plane crank, 5.2l V8 that produces over 500 horsepower and spins past 8,000 RPM. This is packaged in a chassis that features the latest suspension technology along with a Torsen, brakes that stop on a dime, a 6 speed manual transmission, bucket seats and carbon fiber wheels. ALL FOR UNDER 50k.

All for a listed price of under 50K. I think your chances of actually owning one for under 50K are the same chances I'm getting a pro racing ride for next year. Market Adjustments galore. I think the street price will be much closer to 60K. Then in 5 years there will be a ton with 10K miles coming out.
Other than that, It's a lot of car for the money. It's a helluva factory offering at 50K

There was a lengthy thread about them. The consensus is that they seem badass.
There's a guy on my local CL selling the rights to his (regular GT350, blue/white stripes with the Tech pack) for $75k

Yeah, I would think that getting one of these for anywhere near sticker price will be difficult for at least the next year or so.. Remember how bad the markups were when the first S197 GT500's came out? I'm sure this intro will set records for markup

I've been working at a Ford dealership for 8 months. I don't believe you can buy them for $50K. The cheapest one I am aware of sold here for $62K.

According to Ford's configurator, starting MSRP for the base GT350 is $47,795 while the GT350R starts at $61,295.

Try putting down a deposit and see what happens. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.

Guess I misinterpreted your post. I thought you were saying that they were priced from the factory over $60k. Didn't realize you were saying the same stuff that everyone else in this thread has already said, that being the fact that there will be sizeable dealer markups, especially for early adopters.

I'm fine with waiting a couple of years until demand and dealer gouging dies down.

I don't think it will be impossible to find a dealer to sell at MSRP for the 2016 models....it just takes work. Some dealers have a policy not to overcharge, so seek those out, get on the list, and be ready when they have an allocation. My local Porsche dealer is like this, but for special cars the list gets long quickly. They actually start lists, and take deposits, with the rumor of a special model!

Only the $62k 350R gets carbon freaking fiber wheels.....
Will this be a limited run or a "limited" run. I remember when they marked up all the Boss 302 then a year later you could get one 3k off MSRP.
Give it a while. If it's anything like the Boss there aren't a huge amount of people willing to shell out $50k+ for a Mustang, even an extra special Mustang. People buying them for over MSRP are the ones that just gotta have it right away for some reason.

In reply to Andy Neuman:
If Ford holds true to similar cars in years past, they won't build a ton of them but they'll be around for a few model years. I'd guess through '18 which will about when the current Mustang will be due for a mid-model refresh.
I know who is buying GT350R serial #006 and #007 plus another friend has just traded his 14 GT500 for one of next years R's Non have discussed transaction prices with me, but they are not the type of people who normally pay over the odds for them. But, they could all have pull on pricing. In my experience wealthy people don't get to be, or stay, wealthy by paying big bucks to be first on the block, that seems to be the game of people who want to appear wealthy. My guess is that if they are paying a premium it's not what you or I would be asked to pay if we just walked in to make out first purchase.
Oh course, I could be way off base, they may all have been plunking down $80+K for them. I do know the last guy I mentioned paid under MSRP for his last three GT500's, what he paid for his original in 07 I don't know.

This. In 10 years I'll be scouring the trades for one of those "investment" cars with 10k on the clock that is depreciating like a rock.
Although, TBH, if Ford sticks to their guns about the numbers produced, it probably won't depreciate all that much. But even a little depreciation and avoiding the mark ups is something.

The problem is that the GT500's are holding their price stupidly well. Production numbers were:
07 10847
08 8583
09 3559
Total 07-09 series 22989
10 4458
11 5100
12 4834
13 4885
14 5000
Total 10-14 24277
So they made nearly 25K of both the pre and post facelift cars. Even the early 07 cars are still going for circa $30K, there are cheaper ones, but they tend to have stories. Some people are asking more than when new with 5K ish miles on the clock. That's minimal depreciation on a car that stickered for $45K+. 1/3 depreciation in 9 years. So much for driving off the lot and loosing 1/4-1/3 of your value.
Trust me, I'm waiting for even the weak sauce 500hp heavy (iron Vs aluminium block) cars to depreciate to a reasonable level. At this point I don't think it's going to happen.
In reply to ultraclyde:
Not sure if it helps much, but I see that 2008 Mustang Bullets are being sold for $20k. So in 7 years, the rock took out $7k.

Personally, I don't want to wait 10 years. If I get one at all it'll be in 2017 or 18. And it'll be new, ordered to my color choice (white w/ blue stripes).
Then I will drive the wheels off it as my daily driver and it will have 100K miles in 4 years.
In reply to Adrian_Thompson:
IMHO/baseless speculation, the S197 GT500's may drop in price if/when the next GT500 comes out. If they stay true to history, then the GT350 will be the "sports car" Mustang and the next GT500 will be more straight-line oriented. I wouldn't be surprised if a solid rear axle makes a limited return.
I'm just saying, you don't have to pay a premium over MSRP for the things unless you gotta have it right away. Whether they drop in price by a large margin used is another question, probably not the same way a regular GT drops that is for sure.

Per Autoweek, Ford is planning on building 4,000 regular GT350's and a much lesser number of GT350R's in 2016.

Sort of like my plan to get a Focus RS... next fall
I talked to a sales manager about them yesterday. They're getting three. One might be an R, Ford hanst told them yet. Regular GT350's will get a $20k bump over sticker. If they get an R it will be treated like an auction. The dude felt bad talking to me about it. They're also getting one Ford GT. It's spoken for by the father of the dealership owner at $100k over sticker.
The R will be the one that is hard to come by in two years just like finding a Boss 302 Laguna Seca.
Not to self please don't trade in GT PP for GT350 in two years.

it'll be interesting for sure to see what markup is going to be. Fortunately for me (or not) i don't have to worry too much as there is no possibility whatsoever that i could afford one!
