I'm looking at buying some 18" wheels and tires. The guy I'm dealing with is reluctant to ship and seems to think it will cost him ~$250 to ship them to me. That seems silly expensive. Does anyone have any recent experience on shipping wheels with tires? Last time I did it, I boxed up a pair and sent 2 boxes. But it was long enough ago that I don't recall the cost.

They're in NY and I'm in FL.

IF he doesn't get a discount through his work then it could be pretty costly. Though he should be able to ship them through USPS Parcel Post for around $20-25 a wheel.

Last time I got some shipped it was 1/2 way across Canada and was $130. for 4 15" wheels/tires.

UPS shows $230 for something 18" wheel sized from NY to FL. Which is surprising. Try Greyhound using your actual Cities? I used Buffalo and Miami, so your results will be different.

I paid $200 to get a set of Corvette Y2K wheels shipped through UPS, so it could be up to $250. Tell the guy that you will pay the shipping, since the buyer is supposed to pay that too, and to quit crying.

There were tires mounted on them too.

shipnex

uses ups. I paid 140 bucks for ground shipping of four wheels AND tires. 17x8 and 17x7 (350z wheels.) printed the label out from the website and showed up at my ups store with the wheels wrapped up.

http://howtoshipwheels.com/ no kidding this worked great for me.

If the seller doesn't want to do it. I'd pass. Last time I dealt with this, the seller gave in but did a PISS poor job wrapping the tires and rims. Rims arrived via Fed Ex damaged and I got screwed. Not worth taking the chance on it.

FYI, I'm involved in wheel sales all over the place. They always seem to run about $100-130 to ship a set of Miata-sized wheels and tires via UPS.

10 years ago I shipped a set of BBS WRX wheels by Fed-Ex for $ 45.00 from Michigan to Pennsylvania. Granted, it was 10 years ago and not a great distance but at least you get an idea.

I was running some BFG Drag Radials on early 9-spoke Maxima wheels before I got the Hoosiers. I sold them (wheels and tires) on ebay and boxed them separately and shipped them. I can't remember how I shipped them, probably UPS, but it wasn't crazy expensive. That was a few years ago. Maybe eight? I'm old, and I forget. Get off my lawn!

Yeah shipnex is the way to go, kind of a pain to get an account opened but no big obstacle. They actually called me when I opened one to send the Firehawk wheels and tires. Cost me about 180$ for the three and those were 51lbs a piece. Gainesville to Washington state took about a week. Still cheaper than greyhound.

Try Fedex ground. Their website has a good utility for estimating shipping cost.
