Do it!!

Makes me long for the Plymouth Champ I had in college. Didn't do anything particularly well except let me beat the living snot out of it on regular trips from Denton to Austin and back.

In reply to yupididit: If you give up on it send me a PM with the ph.#, the "reasonable" price, and the city it's in. I bought one car in VA this year and I like the looks of this car. I'm in NE TN right now.

Will do. I've been trying to buy this car for 4 years though. My wife originally found this car years ago while I was in Afghanistan and tried to buy it as a 'welcome home' present unbeknownst to me. But, the owner at the time wanted an outrageous amount for it. Then, when I came home I had Conquest waiting for me, she told me about the Colt and how she really wanted to get that one but couldn't get the guy to budge. So I pickup where she left off (still kept the Conquest ) and there wasn't any movement on the price. Then the owner sold it to this guy who currently has it and he received my information from the previous owner earlier this year while I was moving to the west coast. And now yesterday, he gives me a great offer. I just told my wife about it and she thinks its hilarious. Her reply, "Better sell a Benz!".

So sell a Benz. Unless you have something harder to find than a black/gold/nice interior/running/twinstick colt turbo? I kinda doubt it. I can think of several cars of which <500 were ever made that are about 50x easier to buy than the Colt i just described.

I would ship that. Add the price of shipping and then ask yourself if you would buy it for that if it was across the street from you right now. If the answer is no, admit that you will not get the car and cry yourself to sleep.

It sounds like you anticipate coming back to VA at some point. I grew up and work in Northern VA, live down around Culpeper and have a large property/driveway...aka plenty of storage space.

Wouldn't it cost a lot less to ship it? Not just in terms of $ but time and headaches?

I do not plan on driving the car 2600 miles at all. I could ship it for about $1100. It weighs about nothing and is itty-bitty.

Hmm the car is pretty close to there. I will come back to VA next August for about 3 weeks.

A car carrier will charge you less than a grand.... more than likely you can find a price in the $500-$600 range... do it, and its done.

Oh... don't pass this on... you'll regret it

How big a hurry are you in? I'm out if time until next year but it wouldn't take much to sell the wife on a road trip.

For reference, I shipped an E30 from Florida to Oklahoma 5.5 years ago and it was $800.

I've shipped a car from VA to CA already. I was born of patience, I'm not in a huge hurry but I'm not trying to miss out once again.

You can probably have it shipped over for somewhere between $600-1,000.

Easy for me to type this as I'm in Michigan and don't own a tow vehicle or a trailer. But what about the GRM relay service?

Forum member 1 transports the car from the seller, Point A to point B.

Forum member 2 transports the car from point B to point C.

Forum member 3 transports the car from point C to point D.................

Forum member N+1 tansports the car from point N+x to point N+x+1..............

Until N+x+1 = Yupidit's driveway.

I think fee/fuel fuel surcharges make it more like $1200+ to go east to west coasts unless you use one of those fly-by-night guys offering super cheap rates that show up on CL. I suspect they just come get the car and then ship it to south america to be chopped ;) I have heard you can have it put on a train for a reasonable amount but the particulars of how to do that are not known to me. The googles probably know all about it though.

I just paid $600 to get a bike shipped 1200 miles from MS to PA.

I am having an Acura TL shipped from El Paso to Michigan (1700 miles)for $800 right now. I used U-ship. plug it in and see, it is not binding until you accept the bid.

I have used a moving company to ship 2 cars from California to Michigan. They gave a better rate if I could be patient and wait until they had a partial load.

I made a mistake today. I drove a very well maintained and classy modified E39 M5 today. Yeah...my budget will be about $15,000. Red, Blue, White, or Black.

Im confused. What is the budget for? I thought that wasnt enough for an e39 m5?

Sorry. I'm no longer pursuing the Colt. I think 15k should be enough for a M5 driver. I'm not looking for anything immaculate. But, Im willing to go up a few grand.

I have a '86 Mirage Turbo (no twin stick, boo) that I squirreled away years ago in my parent's basement. It hasn't moved under its own power in a decade, but some day I'll pull it home and get it on the road.
