I cut out the inner sleeve on my 280zx front control arm to install Energy Suspension poly bushings. However, they're loose! Like, I easily fit them in by hand and they wobble around a little bit. There was no way they'd fit with the outer sleeve still installed. I'm very confused - what am I doing wrong?
The instructions say not to cut the sleeve, but every single datsun web site claim the instructions are wrong and you have to remove them.
Now, I panic.
never dealt with poly bushings on a Nissan.. I know on my BMW they required some force to get in and do not move around at all
All the poly bushings on my s30 were a tight fit, I don't remember if I had to ignore the directions for any of them or not, it was a while ago. They should NOT be loose though.
The 2 piece Energy Bushings I installed on my 78 Z were not tight. They fit, without any wobbling, but they would go in and out easily with little pressure. I also put a zerk fitting so I could grease them regularly and I've never had an issue.
Wobble would make me think the bushing and hence the whole piece could move which would induce change.
Yeah, wobble is definitely bad. Most poly bushings take a strong push to get them in. If they wobble, they'll do a good imitation of a bad bushing.
Thanks all. After a little more googling, it appears that I have the wrong part number... I need 7.3103 but I have 7.3107. Sigh.
Energy Suspension is not good at getting all the right parts in the box, unfortunately.
Yeah. I noticed on my rear bushings (which fit snugly) one out of four inner sleeves is the wrong part. The ID is too small to fit the bolt. If I can't get Energy to ship me the correct part, I'll bore it a little on my lathe.
