There is a market for them. Try LS1TECH it would probably be the best bet.

Sorry for the semi-hijack, but I couldn't let this go:

I just got back from the garage, and this is exactly what I was thinking of doing. So, there's one thing that my Camaro and my classic Mini share. I'm having trouble coming up with a second

I can think of a few: huge production numbers, questionable but semi-effective suspension designs, and near-useless back seats.

while drivetrain wise, that generation Camaro is at the top of the pack (aside from the brand new one) from a styling point of view... they look like an aerodynamic turd to me.

I actually don't mind them, and it could make someone a decent shell for ESP or CP autocross as well. Maybe build it for American Sedan, American Iron or AIX car as well.

When the rest of the girls driving their little four poppers get done clamoring for it's death-ignore them and pass it on to someone that will appreciate a nice potential track car. Try to sell it as complete as possible first.

scrap value should be well over $100 for al that ugly metal now that you've removed all the good parts (e.g. the drivetrain)...

I may drive a "four popper" but I know aesthetics.. and the 4thgen was NOT a pretty car.. each generation got uglier than the previous

Sounds like Miatas have something in common with the F-body too.

It didn't either..

If you have the space to store it for a few weeks then list the rolling shell for sale and see what happens. If you can get a few bucks for it as-is, it's a whole lot easier getting rid of the rolling carcass than pulling a couple pieces off here and there to sell then having to get rid of the hulk.

Somebody out there wants it. Crushing is for SUVs. Only problem is whether you're able to leave it hanging around until you find it's "soulmate".

My fave is the 3rd gen (for sentimental reasons), but I always thought the later cars were pretty good. And you never know what's going to happen..I saw a lot of Corrados parted out & crushed about 5yrs ago because nobody wanted them, but after Hammond's piece on Top Gear (and an article in Hemmings Sport & Exotic), interest has picked back up.

Just to reiterate, I have no interest in building this thing up myself. None at all. I've had the chance to drive it on the road before the teardown, and the only redeeming factor I found was the drivetrain. If it's going to live on, it will be in someone else's care.

This shell will never interest the Pebble Beach set. Bondo on one rear quarter and some wrinkles in the substructure up front tell the tale of at least one eventful occasion in its past. If it lives on, it would probably be best as a drag car. The hood cuts down the visibility by a ridiculous amount so it would make a terrible autocrosser with the body it has.

I'm probably going to keep it around here for a while, until the MG fires up and I know I've taken everything I need out of the big fat car. After looking around at parts prices on ebay, there certainly isn't a lot of cash in this car as parts and it may not be worth the hassle. I get the feeling a lot of them suffer the same fate mine did. I'll see if I can sell it locally somehow, and if not then I'll just send it off to be squashed. If anyone here has interest in it, let me know.

that is just it.. if that shell was in excellant shape.. it would be worth saving. I have either driven or ridden in every generation of camaro/firebird except for the new one... out of all of them, I absolutely HATED the looks, interior, and ergonomics of the 4thgen.

Heck, I learned to drive on a 1971 Formula Firebird with those awesum dual hoodscoops...

Just because I prefer to drive a "four popper" does not make me a girl.. if anything, you are probably insulting the girls on this forum

Exactly, I say let it live....pass it on to someone else.. Lots of potential in the shell. I've started with a lot less...
Drag and American Iron racer's are potential buyers. As far as the hood, flat ones are easy enough to come by if the extra clearance isn't needed.

Plus parting things out is a royal pain in the ass. If you were near me I'd give scrap value, so you wouldn't crush it. I'd then just set it aside until someone came along that could use it.

All you guys who are saying "don't kill it, build it", where are the offers?

I've been pulling the wiring out of the car today. If someone does take this shell, the new owner will have to reassemble the interior!

just because it isnt a miata doesnt mean it should die! anyone who calls him/her self a car person should be ashamed to recommend the crusher for anything but a pontiac aztec! the shell at the crusher is worth about 150 bucks at best without the running gear. put it on craigslist for free to the the person with the most interesting plan. i did this with 2 cars i pulled parts from and the stories i got back from the person who built one of them were really cool. (it is currently in the camaro mustang challenge series, wrecked twice but having a ball learning) the second one hasnt been finished yet but if the recipient succeeds he wants to be on pinks all out in tennessee. i think it would be cool as &^*% to see that happen.

I've got it...it should be a stunt double for the Targa car. It's time for FM to make a Ken Block gymkhana style video.

Picture it- The Targa Miata (or Elvis) tears up to the Colorado National Monument with all sorts of slidey hooligan antics and wacky camera angles. When it gets to the top, pull some tricky camera antics and send the Camaro over the edge in a CHiPs-style fiery explosion.

It would totally work for a viral video sensation. A sawzall, some paint, and about 300 feet would make the Camaro a passable double for a Miata. Especially if it's on fire. You'll be famous!

I'll pull the VINs off the car before we launch it off the Monument. Fire is always a good plan.

As I'm tearing into the car to get the wiring out, I'm certainly not enhancing the resale value I don't know if this car will live again, as someone's going to have to rewire a fairly large portion of it after I get the engine management and instruments pulled. We'll see what happens. At this point, I'm not discriminating much between the crusher or a dreamer with stars in his eyes. When the time comes, the person who makes it go away will get it.

About the "should be ashamed" comment - I don't dig pointless automotive destruction. It's not like I took the car out to the desert and tried to jump it until the transmission fell out. The best parts of the car are going to be used to make something that I think is pretty damn cool. The question is what should be done with the remains.

in keith's shoes, i'd post it on the nearest CL for one week priced at scrap value minus $30 for gas, and if it's still there after that week, call the junkman. like he said, all the good parts are going to make a freakenstein little MGB.
