Need a lot more cage under 8.50
From the Sick The Mag Facebook page: The Swedes are straight up gangster at Sick Week 2023 Presented By Gear Vendors Overdrive! Michael Westberg took over the lead on day two with a personal best 6.400, lowering his average to a 6.482. That puts him just ahead of Stefan Gustafsson's 6.496 average. Day one leader Tom Bailey is likely out with transmission problems.
That makes Bailey 0-2 at finishing his own event.
The green turbo LS Miata that is running 8.50s also dropped out. Engine locked up during the drive tonight.

Sorry to disagree but according to Calvin ( nivlac57) it's like 1 bar and he's good to 6.50 he has a very nice video on building the cage in the Volvo. I be back shortly with the one to look for
I was wrong. It's only 5 pounds difference between a 6.50 cage and a 7.50 cage. The difference between a 8.50 cage and a 7.50 cage is like 33 pounds.
Watch his video on what cage do I need Great information.
Maybe a frame car is easier but on mine its funny car hoop, a ton of pita floor bars, rocker bars, x door bars, dash bar, and a second support on the main hoop. Already cert'd to 8.50 to go to 7.50. More than 5lbs

I like watching his video's. He packs a lot of information in them. He's got a nice personality, his family adds to that. Doesn't often do more of the same, when he does there is always a interesting twist to it.
When he has one of his live events I turn it on in the shop and it's like there is someone in the background talking to me while I do whatever I need to get done. If I miss something interesting I just run it back a time or two until I get it.

To go a 7.50 cert from 8.50 is going from a std "12 pt" into a sfi 25.4/25.5 chassis. Depending on the vehicle you start with determines the floor and many other bars. This is also the only sfi spec chassis that can be made out of mild steel tubing. To go into the 6.50 spec or sfi 25.1e/25.2/25.3 is not many more bars but they are dependent on overall vehicle weight when completed. I see plenty of dual cert 25.2/3 tho.
You can easily be 50# heavy for 8.50 to 25.5 in MS. Moly is more like 20-25.
Just finished the 285 mile run from Bradenton to South Georgia. Totally beat and headed to bed. Last night we didn't get in until 1:41am.
Volvo is in 5th place and wagon is in 7th. Goal is to chase 8s on Friday.
Steve Morris and the BoostMaster wagon are sadly out of competition. They broke a transmission on the dyno at FuelTech before the event. Got a new transmission and swapped it in, then forgot to open the dump valve for the torque converter and blew a line on the blew a line on the transmission during testing. Fixed the line, flushed the fluid, then shattered a pinion. They got that fixed for Day 1, did a 6.74, and then that night on the drive realized that their transmission didn't have second gear and hadn't had it during the 6.74 pass. They made another pass on Day 2, going right from first to third, blew out the wastegate downpipes and developed a big oil leak. They were going to Kevin Smith's to swap in their spare transmission, and apparently got their and got the transmission swapped out but discovered they had some sort of driveshaft issue that they couldn't fix and retired from competition.

Watch Calvin's video on the subject. Nivlac57 on U tube He's got exact weights and will walk you through it
Looks like the Nelson's Volvo just crashed at the end of its run. Smoking through the run, then over the wall on fire at the top end of the track. Hope everyone is ok...
On edit:
..they just announced the "driver is alert and asking what he ran." So, some good news..
Watched the video and looks like the engine left go, oiled the tires, skidded into the other lane, got into the wall, and momentum lifted the back up and over it went then rolled because of the angle of impact. Small fire that went out quickly.
T&P to the Nelson's. Crashing sucks. Crashing at 140 really sucks.

ps- heard issues with getting Andrew out because the crash mangled up the doors. But was alert and asked the rescue crew, "what did I run?"
From Facebook:
Andrew Nelson runs person best of 9.12 @ 149 in his 1959 Volvo PV 544 but kicks the rods out of the Atlas 4200 SBE inline six and puts the car on it’s lid and over the wall. Son Calvin confirmed he is banged up but otherwise OK. Pray for the Nelson’s y’all!
The Atlas 4200 swap page on FB was going crazy about that run and subsequent crash. Sounds like he's doing ok.
I messaged Calvin and he says Andrew is okay. He was being checked out.
Edit: After whacking the wall like that he'll be plenty sore where his belts contacted him. Hopefully that's all.
Edit: Calvin posted that Andrew has a bruised hip, a bruised lung, a couple of broken ribs and some possible nerve damage to his eyes.
