Significant other at track

Get your SO to drive. That what I did with my girlfriend and now she beats me alot of the time...may not have been the best idea

Kids go to visit a grandparent for the weekend. Wife comes along if she isnt working and rather enjoys it. Disclaimer: its the dragstrip and my wife likes old cars.

I leave them at home. My wife has zero interest in coming out to the track, they're in BFE around me. She hates driving on the street, so doesn't care to drive on the track. She also doesn't know how to drive a manual, so she can't drive my track car.

My 12 year old daughter would rather hang out with her friends. My 3 year old son is too young to bring, when he gets older I may try bringing him, especially if there'll be other kids around his age there.

We try to participate in some of the social events that my club puts on so that she knows some of the other racers and their spouses. When we race at our local track she'll come out for the last race of the day and stay for the potluck. On the rare occasion that she travels to an event with me she reads, goes for walks, practices one of the instruments she plays or hangs out with one of the other spouses. She will also help in the paddock if I ask her to but since she's not really into that it often takes more effort to provide instruction than it would for me to just do stuff myself.

My wife wants nothing to do with my automotive hobby, though I do get her to occasionally help me swap parts.

Personally, I wouldn't want her along on a track weekend (or even at an autocross). She would just be miserable, and that would make me miserable.

clued them in as to what to expect. welcome to come if they wanted. They didn't go to the longer events like Mosport and Waterford Hills. Lime Rock was OK and Pocono sometimes. They did their own thing.

My wife is basically my crew chief on HPDE weekends. She keeps me awake while towing, directs my helpless ass onto the trailer, keeps me fed and watered, and recently, she joined the "ladies auxiliary," which puts on the Saturday evening meal and whatnot (and is an actual work assignment). So, I'm good.

My wife hasn't had any interest in joining me, my 10 year old daughter has been with me to every event of her own volition. She (my daughter) also helps out in the garage a fair bit. Its my daughters attachment to the MR2 that has me selling the Impulse RS. My 5 year old son though has no real interest and mostly stays home with mom and plays video games. I'll let him come around on his own if he wants to join in the fun.

Way back when we raced bikes my wife (girlfriend them) used to make up meals prepacked (we camped) and in the evenings all the other broke arse club raced were subjected to the smell of grilling marinated meats wafting across the paddock. I'd bump into some of the guys years later and the first thing they'd say is your the guy, you married her right.......almost as if I hadn't they would.

When I switched to cars she wasn't that interested as it just wasn't the same as bikes. Now that I switched to vintage races she might have come out but between the meds for her lupus and the lupus itself she needs to be careful about how long she's out in the sun.

My wife finds "car stuff" totally uninteresting. I brought her once to Tremblant, which is as nice a setting as it gets for a racetrack. Unfortunately, it was unseasonably cold and pissed rain all weekend. That was it for her.

My 2 y.o. son is clearly obsessed with cars. I'm hoping he'll want to come with me to track weekends when he gets a little older. Not sure how others are managing young kids at the track, but I'll start exploring options.

The key for our situation has been making the racing a part of a family activity. I will also admit having an older class A motorhome rather than a truck has been the only way my wife keeps coming back. The ac units get used to help with the "perpetual summer" life challenge she has endured. We have been married for 32 years. The first 32.

Having a motor home definitely helps. The people that bring their families with small kids to the track all have motor homes. That way there's an air conditioned place with TV/video games that they can go hang out in.

I don't recommend having your SO drive at the track. First off, it's expensive enough having one person involved in driving on track and secondly it's damn humbling when they're faster than you.

My wife drives our truck and wrangles the kids and their karts while I drive my own car. Simple really.
