Googling "Miata single DIN radio" brought up this install kit at Crutchfield. Google shows a bunch of other options as well. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120997505/Metra-99-7505-Dash-Kit.html
Depends on the year, the dash changed at some point, but I cannot recall when, maybe between 1995-1996?
It was pretty easy in my 97, you just need to find a little cubby to install in the empty space. Crutchfield helps you know if the deck will work on their website.
There are factory cubbies available for the 1.8 cars. The 1.6 cars are awkward, the hole is almost but not quite 2.5 DIN so some surgery is required - or you buy an expensive JDM center console that has a proper 2.5 DIN opening.
The Metra kit for the '90-'93 is a bag of crap. I highly recommend the DDMWorks kit: http://www.ddmworks.com/Miata-Radio-Surrounds-by-DDMWorks_p_187.html
It's not cheap, but it results in a rock-solid installation that looks great. You can even get it with holes for gauges if desired.
I used the metra kit in my 90. Not great, but it's worked for the last 2 years with some small mods to make it stronger.
I had the Metra kit also, it wasn't too horrible. This pioneer wouldn't fit in the DDM kit for some reason:
