My hope is that the fact that it's designed as a versatile, usable vehicle will help see it into production. The Elio and Aptera are pretty niche vehicles that take up a full parking space.

Looking forward to hearing more details on this truck moving forward.

Under the heading of Competition is Good...

Could the threat of Slate be enough for Ford to offer a Maverick 2dr?

Could the threat of Slate be enough for Ford to offer an BEV Maverick?

Could the threat of Slate be enough for Ford to offer a super stripper option to get to price point?

Q: Customization?  A: Maverick 2dr or 4dr; Hybrid, 2.0Lt, or BEV in Lobo, Lariat, XLT, XL, and Sub-XL super stripper.  FWD or AWD.

A 2dr Maverick Lobo would be pretty cool.

Until I see a functioning vehicle I can lay hands on its vaporware.  Nice concept, I hope they pull it off, but right now its ideas and computer renders nothing more.

I really like this, and hope it comes to fruition.

I may have missed it, but has anything been said in terms of a repair/warranty shop network, similar to what Scout is doing with VW?

They explain a little bit in their FAQ:

What is Slate University?

Slate University is our library of how-tos, quick video references, and video tutorials. Slate U will cover everything from maintenance to personalization and everything in between. The content will be totally free (of course)!  We want to make cars DIY-able again. Personalizing and maintaining your Slate can be fun. If that’s something you want to do, we’ll give you everything you need to know. If you don’t, we’ve got you covered with our service network.

But they don't explain anything about their service network.

There's a reason 2 door trucks are pretty much dead, there's no line ups to buy one.

Most like the looks of a 2 door but other then for a fleet or a single 20 yr old dude who's really going to buy one?.

Did they build a new factory or take over an older factory ?

This image is deceptive.

In order to have 48" between the wheel wells, an F150 bed is 67" overall.  In order to have sufficient space for the wheel wells, there should be about 9.5" on each side of the plywood.  That rendering looks more like 2" on each side.

Appreciate the info.

My one hesitation is a dealer network on par with the exotics.  'Yeah, we've got locations, but the closest one is in Philly.'

From that rendering I would say the bed IS four feet wide. The plywood rests on top of the wheel arches. To my knowledge there's been no mention that the 4x8 sheet would sit flush on the bed floor.

That's possible.

There is still an issue with the length. Those 8' sheets are very close to the end of the tailgate (5' bed?)

Its just a rendering.

Yep, it looks like an air gap under the plywood. Hopefully it has 2x4 indents front and rear 1.5" below the wheelwells to hold a couple of flat 2x4s. But that's probably too much to ask of some preppy college grade engineer/designer.

Those 8' sheets stick out past the edge by about a foot by my eye. Yes, it's only a rendering, but I don't think they're trying to trick anyone.

Not that I'm buying one. I have my Maverick and I'm happy with it so far. (Haven't needed to get any plywood yet so we'll see!)

Im not suggesting they are trying to trick anyone. I'm suggesting the rendering isn't very accurate.

You're welcome smiley

I'm curious to see what their "service network" looks like too. Since they will be selling direct to consumer, I hope that servicing isn't locked to a specific make's service center.

This seems very similar to what IH created with the Scout, which I like, versus what VW is doing with the "Scout".  I still wish it was a plug-in hybrid though.  Range would be fine for 90% of what I need but that other 10% has me thinking this won't be my next car.

Deceptive

  1. giving an appearance or impression different from the true one; misleading.

An image that presents an impression that is different from the true one is deceptive.  It doesn't matter whether it was intentional or not.

Tricking or lying is intentional.

I didn't suggest the company was trying to trick anyone or intentionally deceive. I said the image gave an impression that might be different from reality.

So yes.  Lighten up Francis.
