Another start up company is making a shorter nosed small EV truck, it's called the Telo MT1. There was a thread about it here a month ago.

It's clear at least a few folks think there is a market for this kind of thing.

Yeah, it's ugly and I don't want to think about where my legs would be in a crash...

That looks like they taught a Mustang Mach E to walk backwards.

I just think that it's a little ridiculous that the hood is almost as long as the bed. Since this thing is being marketed for utility, why get too hung up on looks anyway?

This is aimed at individual consumers, not fleets.  Looks are very important to sales, and crash safety is a federal mandate.

Jay Leno just released a video about driving the Telo:

Wasn't the Maverick supposed to be a $20k truck? So is this part of the marketing plan for alow cost to only it be $10k if you want a gas pedal and brake pedal.

It takes some imagining. But I love functional design and am willing to sacrifice some aesthetics for it.

This is a little extreme, but imagine shrinking this a little and get rid of the crew cab:

But I'm just howling at the moon. Nobody's changing for me.

Good lord no, that is hideous. I like the looks of the Slate as it is.

Also, how the hell do you get in?  And once you do, where do you sit?  That front tire is very much in the way.

(And yes, I realize it's just an AI rendering)

That AI image is deceptive.  There I said it.  It's not the Telo.  I like the Telo but at twice the price it's not in the same market.  It also doesn't seem to be as customizable.

Yes, that was how Ford marketed it for 2022; starting at $19,995 plus destination.

The base trim (XL) for 2025 is $26,995 plus destination.

Personally, I think even if the federal EV rebate goes away, $27k for a BEV in 2026 is pretty darn good. But that is if the price doesn't increase at all. I'm hopefully optimistic but also a realist. We shall see.

I put down a deposit, I don't really need a small truck but I may have to start driving in to work again and am interested in trying something cheap and electric. The two battery model should comfortably make my commute.  I don't know how many people there are like me though that will buy a stripped down truck to drive every day but hopefully there are enough to make it work.

And shameless plug, if anyone from Slate is here and wants to send one out to someone with questionable judgement who will put 600 or so miles a week on one I'm available.

My daughter has some fun with the configurator... If they can get to full production in the next decade or so, that's one more potential customer.

Nope. Having a big nose on the thing makes no sense to me. There isn't a radiator and an ICE up there. I'd like to see 18" taken off the nose. Add another foot to the bed, and 6" to the cab so that there's a bit of storage room, or the ability to tilt the seat back enough to take a nap.

They released a video a few days ago showing a lockable frunk which adds an additional secured storage area.

Admittedly with inflation the 2022 is $22,743 which does narrow the gap

People balking at the $27k for a full EV haven't bought a new car recently. $27k is a cheap car in 2025, period. $27k is a CHEAP AS HELL BEV in 2025.

I didn't read the Verge article prior to giving feedback, and now I'm warming up to the idea. A well-set-up mini pickup can be a fun ride. Amazing sightlines from the cab. The low cg and decently powerful motor should give it nice scoot and handling - especially at sub freeway speeds. The ethos of allowing owners to work on the thing and keeping it simple might allow it to break into second-and-third world markets. Lord knows smogboxes like Mexico City would benefit from these over 30-year old Toyotas and such.

I'm interested in one. Drive it to work 3-4 days a week, save some miles on the toys, plus I can just plug in at home.

Not certain it'd be great during a Canadian winter, but I have like a 75km round trip commute (46 miles), so even a drop in mileage over winter should still be fine. Not having to stand outside in the -40 cold getting gas in the winter would be awesome, and a set of winter tires would probably make it fine for 90% of winter driving with just 2 wheel drive.

I like it. The website is up and fun to mess around in. https://www.slate.auto/en

This image implies a 4ft wide bed. At 5ft long, it's about the same as a normal 1500 crew cab.

Since I keep seeing comments about a 4' bed being speculated, I figured I'd point out that their website on the "specs" page states it has a 5' bed.  slate.auto/en/specs

my concern is what is the cost of the accessories?  is the ala carte capability going to be Porsche like options list?

i.e. if it's $27k for the truck but another $20k for the options are you really any cheaper?  The DIY aspect is exciting for those that like to play with that stuff, but the majority of customers view vehicles as an appliance.

I put a reservation in. Honestly the no-frills truck build is perfect for me. Wish it had a bench but otherwise I'm on board. Add a couple speakers and that's pretty much all I need.
