Huh. Amazon now has their own brand of motor oil. For dirt cheap.

Like 5 Qts of 5W30 Full Synthetic for $17.27!

Or 5 Qts of 5W30 conventional for $16.99.

There's 5 Qts of 5W30 High Mileage full synthetic for $19.99 and 5 Qts of 5W30 synthetic-blend high mileage for $14.75.

They do single quarts in 6 packs and 5W40 as well right now. Sounds like they will expand viscosity as well soon.

Cool but still too pricey for me. I buy Mobil 1 Synthetic from Walmart for $22 for 5qt jug. I get the $12 mobil 1 rebate - makes it $10 for 5 qt sythetic for me.  Been doing this for 4 years now, for 9 vehicles.

The big question is who makes it for them? Also, I just got a 5qt jug of Mobil for 16.99 at bimart.

My wife got a deal on liquid hand soap on Amazon.

I came home one night from work to let her know she had a leaking box of something on the front porch.

Warren. Same company that does SuperTech from WallyWorld.

The auto store I worked at sold MAG 1 lubricants, also manufactured by Warren. They produce a lot for different brands.

Warren Distribution, same manufacturer as Mag 1 and a lot of other private-label stuff:

I've purchased similar products through Amazon multiple times.  Had a couple leaks over the years.  For something like this it doesn't seem worth the discount vs. going to Wal-Mart for what seems like a very similar product via SuperTech branding.

If they get into motorcycle oil products then I might revisit as I find the markup on that sort of product to normally be rather harsh.

I've bought Mobil 1 through Amazon numerous times, never a leak. They've gotten much better with the shipping thing in the last couple of years.

I'm intrigued to try this oil, maybe in the $500 Bronco.

Why would you do this when you can just go to Walmart and buy similar oil for cheaper?

Convenience and the people of Walmart.

I’d rather pay a couple dollars extra and do the oil change in the time it would take to go to Walmart.

One issue with this is disposal of the old oil. In MA the stores that sell it need to take the old oil for recycling.

So how is the quality of the Amazon oil compared to major brands?

$13.47 for a 5qt of 5w30 high mileage full syn at my local Walmart for their Supertech brand.

Need to change my oil this weekend, so it looks like I'll be hitting it up before the usual Walmart shoppers flood it.

I'm sorry, Mobil 1. It's not you, it's just that I'm cheap.

Warren makes both Supertech and Amazon Basics oil, they are actually registered as the same thing on their API certificate. Interesting how Wal-Mart and Amazon are at each other's throats but are using the same supplier. Doubly interesting that Wally World is cheaper despite Amazon being the fresh on the market one.

Amazon declared last year that they want to take over the auto parts supply business. This is a step towards that but maybe not working out how they wanted so far?

If Amazon wants to make headway into the auto-parts business, they need to do a ton of tuning to get rid of that garbage search engine. That means when I shove "2011 Mazdaspeed3 alternator" into it it's not spitting out whatever the hell this is:

That's fine if I'm looking for a clothes line or bath towels, but if I'm looking for an exact part without the exact Mazda part number it isn't worth the hassle of possibly getting the wrong item. There's a reason RockAuto's setup the way it is, and there's a reason (despite my issues with them) I keep using them.

None of those are correct by the way.

I hear you. The secret is to use RA's catalog to get the PN, then plug that directly into Amazon.

That said, I did just that for F&R sway bar endlinks for the Mazda 5 and got 2 different PN fronts (neither of which was correct) and one of the rears had been mis-boxed (at least those box PNs matched the order!). I sent everything back and am living with the clunking for now. They were AC Delco Professional parts ordered direct (not through a 3rd party seller).

I wish that there was a parts place that had Amazons return policy and free 2-day shipping, but a catalog like RA's, but had selection like NAPA and Advanced combined. Stupid consolidation in the parts industry is killing me.

And then I triple-check by going to the parts manufacturer's website. I do that with RA, too. I've been burned too many times......

I decided to be the guinea pig. The $850 car lot special commuter Mazda3 is due for an oil change, so I picked up a 5 Qt jug of 0W20 full synthetic for $19.99. Maybe I'll do an oil analysis, but I don't have a baseline on this POS. I do track MPG religiously and drivability, so I should see something if it's not as good as the Castrol Magnatec that's in there usually.

I just ordered a German-made water pump gasket for a 1991 BMW 318, not a particularly common engine. Amazon had it in stock at their Maryland distro center and it arrived at my door 8 hours after ordering it late at night. I was floored. This isn't a headlight bulb, it's a low-volume part for an old car....crazy.

I'm not interested in ordering oil online though. I can drive 1 mile and walk my ass into walmart to pay a bit less for supertech or a almost the same for Rotella T6....I will order things that I can't buy locally for reasonable prices (read: Advance Auto ripoff prices), but if I can find it locally for close to online prices, I like excuses to drive my cars places ;_)

The Syntech? I've used it for 13 years in my explorer, certainly seems smoother and uses almost nothing between changes.

Tried Royal Purple once and it vibrated more
