Finally got to see my dad's "mistake" purchase of a heated garage "barn find" 1959 Studebaker Lark with an original 41k on it.... Holy E36 M3. Open the trunk and look around its lately rust free... Look a bit more and see the rear quarters are BOLTED to the structure. Odd. Dig deeper and the dang quarters are fiberglass!!! Right along with the front fenders! Enough babbling on to the pictures!!!

Good God Almighty! The wife and I long since decided an early Lark will be the first big purchase after we get into a house.

170 or 283?

My uncle had a Studebaker Lark that looked just like that one. I always remember him calling it the Stupidbaker as it seemed to be in the shop a lot.

That sounds like more of an uncle problem...

So, I looked around a bit and still cant be sure: Are the fiberglass parts factory or after-market? How much else on the body is fiberglass?

I'm not doubting you at all on the fiberglass quarters, but in the fifth picture is looks like there is rust on the quarter panel. What am I really seeing?

Just the fenders and quarters. Factory.

Carryover from the other panel. Only reason I know it's fiberglass is the surface has a smooth feel vs rough feel plus fiberglass just feels overall different. Then the backside of the panel is rough like chopped strand and mat.

I knew those cars had bolt on quarter panels but didn't know they were made of fiberglass. Interesting feature, I suppose it was something they did to save money since their finances were in tough shape at that time.

It turns out you can get factory build info for Studebakers from the Studebacker Museum: https://studebakermuseum.org/store/production-orders/production-order-1936-1959_00028/

Production orders are now available for 1936 - 1966 Studebaker cars and M-Series and newer trucks. 1936 - 1937 includes the President line only and Canadian Production is only available from 1960 - 1966. The production order will outline how your Studebaker left the factory. It will show the original color and interior, as well as providing the body and engine number and any optional equipment. To order, please provide the serial number, year and model of your Studebaker.
