...on my minivan!

My evil plot to make my Mazda5 a road rocket has taken another step towards fruition.

Obviously you need to simplify your inventory by making the 5 use the same size tires as the Cobra.

Speed 5. Or mazda5. ? Making a sleeper with a 5 (the little van) is something that I want to do some time.

I also bought a fender roller... then I got carried away and used a cut off wheel on the angle grinder.

Wider is always better.

So far just Mazda5. I have SPC camber arms in the back and camber bolts in the front, KYB's, and H&R springs already. Next step is ditching the comically small 17x6.5 205's combo for 17x8 245's...

Does the Mazda 5 use the same mill as the Mazda 3 GT? If it does you can totally shoehorn one of the 2.3L turbo mills into it.

Who in the world would want a pseudo-minivan that looks cool, is fast and can corner?

C&D did a Mazdaspeed conversion on the Mazda5 and is was more difficult than you'd think.

The factory should have done it, full stop. Sure, it would not have sold well, but it would have been an instant classic.

In reply to pinchvalve:

Yeah, I know the real MS5 is a bear to do. I'm going to homebrew mine with a turbo kit, plus I'm keeping the automatic.

The 3 turbo kits are a bear to fit since the engine compartment is really squashed. There are two running kits in mz5s on 24/7. I've got 9s with 205/50/17 on the back of mine and that necessitated a slight fender pull, I had 245/45 on but with the offsets it hit the fenders and I drive a lot so can't have that. 7s on the front since there is not much room up there. I said I was going to turbo it but it's at 183k miles now and nothing has really needed done on it so I'm just going to drive it till the wheels fall off.

Mz3 to ms3 isn't bad. It's been done. I can't imagine a 5 to be much harder.

It's actually very hard. The MZR motor in the MS3 is direct-injected and the PCM is so different that you need the MS3 BCM as well. The complete fuel system including tank, gauge cluster, front subframe, and a thousand other parts are all different. That's why there's only ever been 2 built, Mazda's and R&T's.

I'm going to turbo kit the 2.3 in it and do anti-lag and paddle shifters.

I've always loved the concept of the minivan sleeper.

Couple of guys over on Turbo-Mopar.com had first-gen Dodge Caravans that ran 10s or some such nonsense.

Does this Mazdaspeed 5 monstrosity have a build thread?

There were a couple of those here as well, that participated in the GRM Challenges in past years.
