So I cut a 4"x4" hole in the floor of my $2018 challenger car to cut the rounded nut off the cat to fix the leaking exhaust that allowed me to buy the car for $125.
How do you think I should patch the hole? This is right above the cat. Spacing is cat, 1.5 inches, thin aluminum heat shield, .25 inches, body. Is JBweld gonna hold up? The package says good for up to 550 degrees F. I certainly don't want exhaust or toxic fumes from melted JBweld in the cabin with me. This is my challenge car so long term durability doesn't matter.
I do have a new Mig welder but I'm not super interested in scraping all the undercoating off the area and learning how to weld in this particular spot :)
Slightly larger piece of sheetmetal, seam sealer, four zip screws. Done.

Is it really that simple in this location? Seam sealer won't get too hot? I'm really conservative so I'd have to use at least 6 screws to feel comfortable, but I like the fact that I could go out and finish this during a couple of commercial breaks.
It's not too hot for the undercoating, is it?

Hmmm. Okay, I have been schooled. :)
Use some of that jb weld instead of seam sealer

My worry with he jb weld is the difficult removal if it doesn't handle the heat. I imagine one would just cut the hole larger rather than try to remove the epoxy.
JB Weld will handle the heat if you choose to go that route. I've used it as filler under powdercoat for years. No worries.
