..which was delayed due to the code that i put into the online subscription box not going thru to GRM HQ.. which is ok, that stuff happens..

anyways, i put the little key into the locker at the post office where they dump your packages that are too big to fit into the PO box, and i see this box staring back at me:

this is what 4 days in the custody of the USPS does to one of their own flat rate shipping boxes as it is in transit from Florida to MN.. the only thing holding the near side on is the one piece of packaging tape that somehow managed to not break, and the short edges of the far side are totally blown out..

it's only a box full of car magazines and they look undamaged, but i'd be royally pissed if there was something with a high monetary value in there... i'm tempted to leave it as intact as it is and go raise hell monday morning, but i know it won't do any good... but maybe i could find out which of the 2 women they have working there put it into the locker without at least trying to tape it back together somewhat to cover their ineptitude...

or maybe it got attacked by a badger that got in via a trans dimensional wormhole while it was in the locker and USPS really isn't to blame...

but, anyways, thank you GRM for the free reading material.. and screw you USPS for not caring enough about your jobs to make sure it arrived in good shape or at least attaching a note that says "my bad for wrecking your box :( "..

wonder what they do when someone test out their "up to 75 pounds" claim on these flat rate boxes? makes me want to grab some scraps of 2" steel plate out of the dumpster at work until i have enough to fill a box and then send it to myself..

I have to figure the weight catches some people by surprise and it gets dropped. Or just imagine it ever has to ride down a ramp with rollers on it..probably gets moving pretty well before being brought to an abrupt halt by some other object.

i envisioned something like this going on every time a person handled it as soon as i opened the door on the locker and saw it:

regarding it being heavy: my bathroom scale says it's 18 pounds, and it feels like a 12 pack of Pepsi when i lift it... i can easily lift and carry it with one hand... sure the USPS deals with much heavier stuff every day and surely they have the equipment to deal with it..
