Could that run GT-1 in SCCA? That is very close to what we raced in IMSA in the late 80's. Our motors were 22K at that time, though. Wonder why so cheap.
There would be some changes needed in setup (obviously) and maybe the odd safety thing that would need to meet spec, but thats a GT1 car right there. Maybe not the worlds most competitive GT1 car, but still... There are a couple of guys that run late models in GT1 up here. They even run the same Goodyear or Hoosier crossply slicks we run on the circle track, which makes tires way cheap. 10.00x26.5x15s are under $150 each here, taxes in. I was paying 215 plus tax for my 225/45 15 Goodyear R tires at the same store.
Forget GT-1. Go GTA:

Made it home safe and sound back at DIYAutoTune HQ. Had it out earlier today just moving cars around to make room for it in the shop, had at least 2-4 people come out every door in sight from the 3 buildings around us just wanting to know what was making all that noise as I moved it around the lot and into the shop.
EFI Conversion is in the very near future-- we'll dyno it the way it is, maybe put a 4bbl on it and dyno again for comparison, and then convert to EFI using a couple of different manifold options we're going to offer along with a 4150 style 4bbl throttle body we'll be offering along with these kits. Each step will be dyno'd and we'll let you know how it does.
Next up-- Chris Lafferty (Nascar Truck Series driver of the #89 truck and head honcho on Chris Lafferty's Motorsports TV show) may campaign it in roundy-round trim at a local track a time or two to draw some attention to it with the EFI conversion in place, as well as to generate some material for his show.
Then once that's done we'll just continue to play with it and use it to test and develop products. We'll have to balance it out so it likes to turn right too and play with it on the local road courses. Should be fun.
We've begun to build a page to document the project here: Click for pics and info on Project EFI Stock Car
Should be a fun project and a fun car... definitely makes all kinds of cool noises ;)
Cool project. Any chance you could set up an RSS feed so those of us with too many pages to check already have a chance of following the project?
:sunglasses for finding the deal:
@BoxHeadTim
We don't have an RSS feed setup for this currently-- but do you Facebook? We keep the DIYAutoTune.com Facebook page updated with what we're up to on projects like this-- http://www.facebook.com/pages/DIYAutoTunecom/57837395932?ref=mf

Sounds like you made a good deal. They are a hoot to drive on a road course when set up correctly.
Convert it to road race and come out and play with us in Crane Cams V8 StockCar.
If you need any resources etc give us a shout
Good Luck

I notice that the car has a Saginaw 3 speed trans. Huh? I always thought they were too weak for ANY kind of power. Appears somebody disagrees with me.
$6k, does not compute! Really, you can buy things like that for $6K? Where?
Used stock cars aren't always worth much. It's all about supply and demand. I've seen some fast cars minus motor for $1200 locally.
