Though I'm sure everyone and his brother does too.
My problem is that I'm not very good with computers (Yeah, I can post junk on GRM and fix basic problems with my PC, but that's about all). Also, I've never been very good at math(i.e. Algorithms).
IIRC, when I had the thread on what y'all do for a living, I remember a lot of something something computer careers. Any of you computer guys know how one fleshes an idea into something real?
Anyone know how apps actually make money (besides advertising)?
Apps make money either through advertising, selling your personal info that you gave away because you didn't read the EULA, or just being sold for money.
Now the first thing is to make sure your idea doesn't already exist. If it doesn't, there are many companies and poor college students that will code your app for cheap.
Gameboy pretty much covered it.
I wrote a few utility apps for android for myself, mostly just to do it and also because the free ones were all about #2 item on his list. If you wanted to learn - there are good tutorials all over and the tools are free.
If not - plenty of places will take your money to do it for you.
Hm. See I'd like to make an app that aggregates a real world mean/median price for x car you want to buy/sell based on whatever factors. My google-fu has showed me similar apps for new cars, but I haven't seen anything for used cars besides KBB (which we all know is bullE36 M3).

How is CarGurus Instant Market Value calculated?
Instant Market Value is the estimated fair retail price for a vehicle based on similar listings in the market. We analyze millions of currently listed and recently sold cars to determine the Instant Market Value for a vehicle based on year, vehicle condition, trim, mileage, transmission, options, region and other factors.
I'll give you the idea if you can just get it done.
Price aggregater for auto parts.
I want to go to your app or single website and when I put in:
Tie Rod for '03 Chevy Malibu it gives me the price and availablity at all the major parts websites near my zipcode.

That app blows though. haha. I tried searching the car I own now and it won't even let me, since the S class listings only go back to 1994. Anyway, I think in an ideal app of this kind you'd just type in the kind of car you're looking for/to sell ("1979 Ford Granada" or whatever), list a condition and a location and get info.

I found this app useful when I was searching for '05-'09 S197s. It brought up the same listings as AutoTrader, some dealers and CL but provided days listed and price drops since originally listed online... the leverage factor. The regional sale price comparison was ballpark AFAIK. It can be imprecise as any site but I'd rather use it than not. Just another tool in the 'ol toolbox... it is what it is.
Obviously not what you're you're looking for w/ '79 Granada's but good luck w/ that.
