as a crosstrek owner I'm intrigued.

except that moving up or down can cause drastic changes in camber and toe on strut equipped vehicles.  Basically all of them.

Most don't notice it while in motion since it happens fairly quickly, some do notice it though and it can cause a number of issues at the "pointy end" of the performance spectrum.

So it's a coilover system. Revolutionary! :) Somewhere I have some photos of the range of available heights with our Fox setup, I'll see if I can find it.

Camber change is often more pronounced in double wishbone cars, actually. Toe change is basically bump steer which should be minimal, but if only all cars were designed that well :)

It sounds like this one is supposed to be easier to adjust though, from what they are saying. At first I thought it was going to be something like the KW Hydraulic Lift System.

In reply to Keith Tanner :

You haven't met these CUV douchebags have you? I've been banned from several crosstrek forums for arguing about the camber changes and extreme CV axle angles they introduce when lifting these cars.

I also point out that both the CVT and manual transmissions were never designed for rock crawling, like some have used them for. I point out the replacement of that transmission is not only expensive but also difficult. 90% reply back with nothing more than "leave me alone, I'm in pretend land right now."

They will replace the bro dozer crowd soon enough. Most put giant nasty tires on and then never see dirt. The next week they are trying to sue the company that made the lift kit "because it keeps vomiting axleshafts" or "helpz! my mpg went down!"

I offered help, but that crowd wasn't ready for truth and facts and data.

Nope, it's just being marketed differently. The pictures show an unexceptional two-piece strut body. Same cutting edge technology as found in MaxPeedingRods.

Dude, I live in Colorado :)

I'll just leave these here. Moab and Engineer's Pass circa 2002. Bone stock. $30 snow tires.

Yeah that's what I was hoping for. "Adjust ride height in minutes"? My ass. Still gonna need a Jack. That takes minutes alone. Then you have to clean those Chinese sleeve threads so the collars will actually move. Then use the maxpeedingrods style "spanners" to make those collars move and then lock down.

Oh? You wanted precise ride height at all four corners? tack on another hour or measuring and adjusting and driving to seat the spring height.

Ah, found the pics. Check out the revolutionary ride height Jouge coilovers from Flyin' Miata! You can go from Laguna Seca to winter snow duty in minutes as long as you don't mind your toe getting funky.

These cars are on the same suspension and they have the same maximum compression travel. The lifted one has oversize tires, even. Heck, I adjust the ride height of the Targa Miata every time it has to go on a trailer. Count the turns and you can be precise and repeatable.

Mmmm, EA82. You're kind of cheating, because those cars were absurdly capable for what they were. I miss mine so much. The old-school Subaru guys would run some crazy lifts on those, but they all just accepted that axle shafts became a consumable.

If by "you guys" you mean "me", the answer is yes. One out of four, but I don't drive it. And one of the others does have a soft top under the hardtop. I don't own Miatas because they're convertibles. And especially not for track or winter use.

If by "you guys" you mean "Flyin' Miata", there are only two cars with hardtops in the shop fleet and that includes the RF. That leaves (counts on fingers) something like six or seven soft tops. All but one of the other employee Miatas are soft tops.

Technically even if it takes a few hours it's still done in minutes lol

Yup, get on the highway and put your foot to the floor because it could maintain the interstate speed limit on a level road! Climbing the passes, I had to watch my mirrors for semis.

This thing didn't have low range, I needed a little momentum to climb that hill in Moab. When I got it, it had something like a half inch of toe out in the rear because someone had smashed the rear beam on a rock. Passenger's floorboard was also convex instead of concave. But I could sleep in the back and it was cheap, if not fast. I do remember putting a halfshaft or two in it even at stock height. Same part for all four corners and super-cheap at Autozone.

I have had no problems rock crawling in my manual CRV, but I see lifted guys on yt constantly braking axles. Seems to me keeping CG low and bolting on whatever tire fits is the best option unless muddin' (which is a whole nother sport, lemmetellya!) I too live in CO, and regularly embarrass madmax cosplay jeeps and mallcrawlers with even my Crx (lifted 1" with coilovers and snow tires as well). Although I usually take my stock toyota 4x4.

However, if you want to lift your CUV, lets discuss that, not knock the opinions of others.

Most issues can be fixed by lowering the engine/trans and rear diff. From washers to diy mounts, the solution is pretty simple. Just keep your damn cv angles sane. When this is not possible, or desirable, you can have severe angle axles made by any number of manufacturers.

"But bro! I have to have that mad, insane, Yo! Lift NOW! I have to jump on this bandwagon so my stock 6" of travel doesn't make me feel less than a man. Plus, I saw a 5min YouTube video. And everything was FINE bro! It was FINE!"

literally 30 days later... "yo, bro who made this lift? That company is shady! Avoid at all costs bro! I broke a CV axle last night trying to do KOTH, and it is totally THAT COMPANY'S fault! My lawyer says to drive a pile of cash to him right now, but I don't have the money because my CUV daily is broken because of this lift and I can't go to work! I'm starting a go fund me right now. Maybe we can take this small time, family owned business down!"

Lifting a Subaru sounds like a lot of work when when XJs, ZJs, and WJs are still cheap.

A Jeep doesn't have the same post-apocalyptic kinda feel, and they're not as good at being cars (source: there is a WJ and an XJ in my driveway). I get why the Subaru guys want to make them offroaders, it makes more sense than doing it to an Exocet :)

But implying that a set of coilovers is some sort of breakthrough is not really being fair to your customers.

Expedition Portal did an overland Forester a ways back.

From the first part of the series: "I’d be lying if I said the Forester was nothing but fun. Driving the twisting mountain roads outside Prescott, tires squealing out in pain through the torture of every turn is fun; launching over cattle guards at foolish speeds is fun; drifting around dusty backroad switchbacks is fun. But when it’s parked, it is one of the most generic looking vehicles ever created…"

Expedition portal's "other" build threads keep me entertained. Particularly, the Cayenne one. I want a Transsyberia badly.

Vehicles that excel off road when they really shouldn't are the coolest to me. A Cayenne that can smash a back road and then smash the trail at end of it.... that's my perfect car.

I have still yet to put my Cayenne in low range in 18k miles. At least im being honest. Although, in 1st gear it feels like it has the same overall ratio as my Montero does in 1st in 4lo.

When i opened this thread I thought it was going to be air bags on coilovers (as in air spring + coil spring) like ive seen on jeeps but it's less cool than that.

I did a 2" lift on an Element for a friend a few months back and it was a LOT of issues. All the people out there who claim it 'just works' just aren't noticing everything it's screwing up. It required a lot of sorting to make it functional by my standards.
