There is and older RHD defender I see in Lower Manhattan. I would guess late 70s early 80s vintage by the two tone brown and tan paint

I beg to differ. Defenders are one of, if not the best four-wheel-drive vehicle as delivered from the factory. Sure, in standard form they're underpowered, but with low range gearing, slow speeds and good wheel placement, you don't need a lot of power to make it up some pretty knarly stuff.

Jonathan, the owner of TLC and the ICON series of trucks does Land Rover's as well. He does good work, and in regards to pricing, he says that the customer is paying for his OCD and neurosis. It shows in the details.

As it sits.. the one in the beginning of this thread is more of a mall cruiser. But you are right.. almost all LandRovers are more than capable of going almost anywhere except the most gnarly of rock crawling in stock or near stock trim

I an not saying it is not a capable machine. What I am saying is it appeared to me that this example was more show. With a bit more attention to things like the bumpers and some skid plates and a winch it would be a much more capable vehicle for off road. It is like my H2. Looks tough and will outperform many a vehicle off the pavement or in adverse weather but it needs more to really get off the pavement and go for some trail ride adventures.
