Reading "Car" magazine from the UK right now and it states that the Solstice is dead/got the axe? Is this true, I haven't heard any news about it on here or other forums, so I'm just wondering if there is any truth behind that. It is a Euro magazine so I'm not so sure I can trust a word it says.

I heard a bit ago that the Solstice Coupe got canceled, but I saw one on the road the other day sporting dealer tags. It was hawt, even in black, which doesn't so it justice.
I understand GM needs to be re-tooled, re-engineered, re-worked, wahtever you want to say, but I think getting rid of that car would be downright retarded. I see them everywhere, prolly more than one should, I counted 4 just in the parking garage I parked in here at UCF this morning. That's more than the amount of BMW Zed cars I see a day.

I haven't heard that yet either. If they did kill it, it would be a monumental waste of a capable chassis. The only things I don't like about that car (switch placement, ergonomics, stowing the top) should be easily fixable in a mid-cycle update. There's way more right than wrong with the Solstice.
On the other hand, if they built the Nomad concept (same Kappa architecture) instead, that would be OK by me. Think RWD MINI Cooper Clubman.
yes, around here the solstice is VERY popular.
I haven't seen details yet on the plan GM is bringing to the government today, but it sounds pretty likely that they'll ax Pontiac altogether.

Don't they lose about $1000 for every Solstice they sell?
And I just saw the Coupe at the Auto Show. That gave me dirty thoughts in my head.

If you haven't noticed they upped the prices so this doesn't happen. Base models sell for like mid-20s now.
Maybe they axed it in the UK if they were even selling it over there, I can't see them getting rid of Pontiac.....why not GMC? It's the same freaking trucks and SUVS as chevy with a different grill and headlights. What is the difference between 20 Chevy truck sales vs. 10 Chevy and 10 GMC?

The Solstice V2.0 was axed. AFAIK (and I own one and frequent those forums too), there was going to be a major revision to the Kappa platform. That is what got axed. I'll see if I can dig up the article.

I read in motortrend that Pontiac was staying a specialty car brand, so different stuff like the solstice and g8, possibly some small mini fighter car. The G6 is the only volume seller and it's older than anything else on the epsilon platform so it will probably just die. The next gen solstice was planned to go on gm's proposed alpha platform that would underpin a 3 series Cadillac rival as well as an opel version of the solstice. That platform is currently on hold right now, as with almost everything there. Since Saturn is going, Buick will take up the Opel/Vauxhall designs.

There is something deliciously comical about the idea of a Buick-badged Sky Turbo sitting on the lots next to Park Avenues.
like was said, the next-gen solstice/sky got the axe. and the number i heard was that they were losing 10 grand for every car they sold due to the cost and complexity of the hydroformed chassis. iunno, i might be wrong tho. i will definitely be taking a long hard look at the solstice coupe later this year

Not dead.
there are no plans to re-do the chassis, the Targa is still slated for production (I have seen a few roaming around Gm , looks good)
Not dead, eh?

With Saturn dead and Pontiac all but, what's keeping the chassis afloat in the US?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I really, really, really wanted an Astra Redline a few years down the road.
Or a Sky.
Not the best picture in the world, but that is a solstice targa top parked out in front of an Autozone in Elkton, Maryland. Flashy 350 Zed in the background too.
hmm those crafty brits seem like they know what they are talking about........just like the electronics on a mid-80s Jag functioning properly.
What I had read was that basically all the RWD platform was going away.

I read this also. The Kappa II platform is getting cut but the current platform should be around for a couple more years.

Kill your RWD cars, kill your performance image. Kill your performance image, kill your youth market appeal. Kill your youth market appeal, kill your overall market appeal.
See Buick, Plymouth.

Why in god's name are they axing Saturn and Pontiac but keeping Buick? What are they thinking?

One day we will hopefully get old, and they will be there waiting.

Buick has 1.3 billion potential customers in China.
In China, Buick is the car of choice for wealthy, young businessmen.
