A diesel Miata? Yep, we spotted this one at Gridlife. The drivetrain alone weighs 1100 pounds, which pushes this Miata’s curb weight to 3200 smoke-billowing pounds. Despite being “somewhat evil,” as its owner says, it definitely stood out from the crowd. The Cummins 4BT pumps out 600 horsepower, w…

How did they adjust the front to hold all that weight? That's what I want to know...

That thing probably gets incredible mileage for a 600hp diesel.

These nut bars built this in my home town in Ontario Canada, its to be sold and all proceeds go to the local high school auto shop.

Raised 10k + in donations to fund the project,I can't raise .10 for my race cars so good job on their part.

Here it is in tug of war

Probably not the best idea, but it shows lots of torquey potential.

Without the power to kick the back end out, that would be one understeering pig!

Guess I'm the only one who thinks that is both the most pointless Miata in the world and the most pointless diesel in the world at the same time. And I'm someone who loves strange car/drivetrain pairings....YMMV.

EDIT: props to them for raising money for the school, that's very nice regardless of the car itself.

I was worried that saying anything bad about a Miata or a diesel on this forum might be grounds for lifetime ban

Eh. Cool build, good work... just not sure I like the finished product.

Tug of wars are videos are the dumbest car videos short of rolling coal IMO.

This is cool. Not everything has to conform to the rules. In fact once you accept that there are no rules in the car hobby your world opens up ten thousand fold. Appreciate the work and the effort that went in to somthing and like it for that. Sometimes there is a vision, sometimes there is a budget, sometimes there is an old Cummings in one side of the garage and a Miata with a bad motor in the other side. I want to play with the guys that think out side the box not the ones that ask why. I want to be with the guys that say why not.

My Duramax makes about 600 lb ft, in a 7,000 lb truck. It's surprisingly fun to drive. I'm thinking that thing makes at least 800-1000 lb ft, and it's 3200 lbs...

I get it that some of you think it's pointless as a diesel, and as a Miata, but IMO the point isn't missing, you're just missing the point! It would be heaps of torquey fun no doubt about that.
