Some sleaze stole Charles Espenlaub's helmet in Amsterdam, and according to a Facebook post, the police have officially closed the case. If anyone happens across a Stilo helmet emblazoned with Battery Tender logos, you can help by letting Espenlaub know via social media.
He exclaims on his Facebook…

"Police have officially closed the case" How in the holy berk do you close a case if the helmet's not back with it's rightful owner? Crooked ash people everywhere. Maybe a cop stole the helmet.

I believe that basically just means a Police report has been filled but there is no further official action to reasonably be taken. As far as I'm aware, that's standard operating procedure in simple theft cases where there are no actual leads to pursue. What exactly would be the advantage in maintaining a backlog of open case files for every single unsolved (and mostly unsolvable) minor crime ever reported?
How much do ypu want to bet that police didn't do anything to investigate. That is SOP. Ive seen innumerable times they've blamed the victim. Asshats.

What the berk do you expect the Police to do. It's a freeking helmet, There are millions of helmets and hundreds and hundreds of thousands in fancy color schemes. Put it in a helmet bag or any bag and it's invisible. What grounds do they have for searching every helmet sized bag in the country?
I expect them to make an honest attempt. You know, speak with people, look at video, etc.
They put less effort into these than they do traffic stops.
I guess you know everything about the cops in Amsterdam.
All those jumping on the cops. How do you know what they did or didn't do before closing the case?
I'm staying off of the cop hate bandwagon for a while. I got a verbal warning for going 15 over the speed limit this weekend. This would be a pretty difficult thing to actually solve. At least until the helmet pops up on ebay.

I mean really, what else could possibly be going on in Europe recently that is more critical then looking for a helmet?
Karma will likely solve this case.
Ouch. It's a carbon fiber Stilo. That ain't like stealing a Bell M1... that is some ching even for guys who can get sponsors. The Zero is something like $5k retail. Even the "lower" carbon ones are $2-3k.

Karma is only good in the next life. It's not nearly as satisfying as the more immediate concept of revenge.
I bet Stilo will give him a new helmet for publicity.
Nobody will be wearing that around town. Guaranteed it is sitting inside a display case in somebody's man cave.

That's what we figure. Perhaps some publicity will shame someone into giving it back.
Charles is an old friend, so this is a bit personal for us. Never mind the cost of the helmet, there are some cool tech stickers on there.
Man who steals a helmet anyways? Thats like stealing another man's underwear. Really cool, flashy, expensive underwear decorated with accolades, but I still wouldn't steal 'em haha.

This reminds me of when my brothers house was burglarized, they stole his 3D TV glasses, a .40 S&W, and his DIRTY underwear out of the hamper. What the what?
